This article from the Houston Comical used inflated figures in boasting of 150,000 attendence:

Court ruling gives Pride Parade an extra spark (Houston Texas gay pride parade)

There was an "unrelated" street festival going on in the same neighborhood. The parade itself was not to begin until after 8PM (and it's just too darn hard to count people at night).

I've been to the street festival in previous years but did not want to go to it this year as I felt that it was co-opted to help boost numbers at the gay pride event.

This man at Indymedia made his own effort to co-opt the street festival:

Breaking News - October 22nd Coalition Declines Booth @ WestFest Due to a Lack of Funds

What was promised as a means to increase membership in the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression, and the Criminalization of a Generation has now evolved into another episode of passive aggression of false promises and lies.

This morning @ City Hall - after meeting with a representative with O22, there will be no booth at the WestFest due to a lack of funds. Only the WFPO Cruiser will be there by itself, even if all of the progressive/community in H-town decide to turn their backs.

Booth #16 was reserved since February 2003, and because of being 'passed over' during the O22 National Conference and the March 15 International Day Against Police Brutality - there will be no representation at the WestFest and Gay Pride Parade.

Was there one of these in any of the parades?

This country was founded on christian principles: I see
this ruling as the beginning of the end! This cannot
change our core principles and beliefs on the subject.

May Justice come quickly upon this nation ?
This seems a very hateful statement !
You want our entire nation destroyed because of the minority of the perverse ?
I praying for my nation and the good people in it !

The minority has become the majority. While the adults were playing, the children were learning.

There is no strength left in the world of men.

Our nation is being destroyed by the "minority of the perverse" and the majority who shrug their shoulders and enable them.

More social problems will come from this, not less.

Your probably both right...But I am still going to pray for our nation...We still have a lot of good people in our country...I know very well that the Supreme's ruling was just one more step to a more evil law...
Another thing the homosexual's think they have gained acceptance and what they are really gaining is more hatred from decent normal citizens...
There is a war going on evil against good...I am praying for the good side...
Remember God did not destroy the good people at Sodom & Gomorrah...

The homosexual movement is largely anti-family. There is an article on homosexual parents who are coming to grips with the "problems" of being the parents of small children and taking them in public to gay pride parades. We won't even get into their "derogatory" term for heterosexuals: breeders.

There are things that homosexual parents don't want their kids to see (like the S&M macho men) and they realize that the kids will tire out and need to be cared for.

Some homosexuals said that they find themselves having to get more support from their heterosexual friends than their homosexual friends because they can't relate. They are focused on an "adults only world" and don't think about kids. I would add that they think of themselves and don't think about others.

This is why I say that they will push for an agenda that will create more social ills. Corruption of minors? Pshaw, they don't have kids to raise (homosexual parents are a ridiculously small subset of an already small subculture of America). Tax dollars for schools or AIDS research? Which will affect them more?

As a voting block, candidates will appeal to their interests, sometimes at the exclusion of mainstream America.

If it wasn't clear from my comments, this is a part of what is referred to as the culture war (and the cultures do clash because they have different objectives, self-interests versus society as a whole).

Deny the kids a good education and the future engineer, surgeon, police officer, food inspector, etc. may not do as good of a job. Even those who don't raise a family should be able to agree that families are a good thing.
