March 12, 2003 Mel Gibson Alters Script at Rabbi's Request (2003-03-12) -- Actor-producer Mel Gibson has granted a request from a prominent Los Angeles Rabbi to make certain that his movie on the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ doesn't portray the Jews of that time as collectively responsible for the crucifixion.

Mr. Gibson said he will also release a new version of "The Patriot" in which the British are not seen as collectively responsible for the American Revolution, and an edited version of "Braveheart" in which the King of England and his armies are portrayed more sympathetically.

I doubt it! "The Passion" is already finished, "The Patriot" wasn't produced by Mel anyway; it was done by Roland Emmerich(sp?), and "Braveheart" was done in conjunction with Roland Wallace(I think that's his name). Didn't you see that it says 'satire'? He couldn't change these now even if he wanted to; which I doubt!

Nice. Change history at a whim. Pathetic.

I know that this article is satire but maybe you should read the story again.

26 As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him.

Luke 23:26-27

The chief priests, the elders, the teachers of the law and the Sanhedrin are named as the responsible ones, not the Jews of the time collectively

It such a foolish notion anyway. Not all Jews were responsible. The disciples were JEWS. Jesus was a JEW. There was no such thing as Christianity at the time of the Jesus' death.

Well, it's obvious (IMHO) that this is exactly what the gospel writers did. I think there is very little doubt that Jesus was tried, convicted and executed exclusively by the Romans; and the notion that a Roman governor publicly proclaimed him innocent, washed his hands, and all that, and then proceeded with the execution, is patent nonsense.

The unvarnished truth, however, was inconvenient for the new Christian religion, so it wrote a bit of "spin" into the Gospels: "No, Mr. Roman, we don't blame YOU for killing our God."

Another place I goofed, was in the Wallace name. It wasn't "Roland Wallace"; it was "Randall Wallace". I've got "Roland" on my brain, for some reason! :)

PS - We're all guilty of crucifying Christ! It was our sins that He was willing to die for and there is NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE! (Romans 3:10)

Christians do not blame any individual or group be it Jews,Romans, midgets, blacks,or democrats for the crusifixation of Christ. This whole controversy is straight from the pits of Hell. WE ALL CRUCIFIED CHRIST!

Nice. Change history at a whim. Pathetic.

Dagar:

Ditto what Harmless Teddy Bear and Stultis said.

Even IF all Jews of 2,000 years ago were, somehow, responsible for the death that we are talking about, I want you to answer a few questions:

1) How does that make ANY of today's Jews responsible?

2) If the answer to #1 is that it doesn't, why are you so exercised about pinning the responsibility on the Jews of 2,000 years ago?

3) How could there even be a religion of Christianity if this death didn't occur?

4) If this death was THE critically needed element in the creation of the religion of Christianity, and "the Jews" are responsible, shouldn't you be thanking the Jews?

I ask these questions not to belittle your beliefs or those of others, but merely to see what (if any) logic you are following.

"Bring us Barrabas!"

Sorry Rabbi, but that's pretty damning, if you ask me.
