the FDR era certainly would be a tempting subject for the next Ann Coulter classic.

But a strong case could be made that the best way of adressing that era would be fiction. A dramatization of the life of Whittaker Chambers would treat the attractions of Communism--to which Chambers initially succumbed--with respect, and could therefore represent a way of engaging the people who now so readily accede to similar treason.

'Tis blasphemy to do such things about Saint Ann!

--Funny, creative, but definitely...NOT nice.

WE LOVE OUR ANN!

I think it's a sad day when a woman has more balls then most men....but, alas, this is the way it is....so be it.

YOU GO GIRL!

Why do you want to load her arteries up with cholesterol? We want her to stay healthy for a long time so she can continue to defeat the red diaper doper baby libs! (with a nod to Savage).

You guys really stick up for Ann! And, in all truth, I really like her too. She don't take no guff from anybody. But I still think she could gain a few pounds. And that Maria Shriver is another one. Too skinny. Shriver looks like Ahnold eats all the food in the house.

"But a strong case could be made that the best way of adressing that era would be fiction."

The name, 'Coulter', should be as far from fiction as possible, IMHO. Remember all the jokes made about Reagan having once been an actor, decades prior to his being president.

It's important to not go overboard in defending McCarthy. I stand by that statement. He drank heavilly due to his sinus condition. And he hired a sleazy advisor who attempted to bully key military personel to help out his peculiar 'friend' in the military. His advisor manipulated him to that end, and McCarthy didn't realise what was going wrong until it was too late.

I agree that McCarthy had the right, general idea. But in the end, he was an easy target for the left. They had a field day with him.

Defending McCarthy is a difficult tight rope for us to walk on. I'm sure whatever Coulter wrote was factually accurate. [Wish I had time to read it.] The real challenge is for freepers to know just how far we can go defending McCarthy.

Hi wisconsin. I'll take you at your word that you are a conservative. So, why not talk to me about it in private messaging? I'm interested what you have to say, because I suspect that you sincerely mean what you say. Shifting from CBS to the Freerepublic is a terrible shock.
And I wonder how many people give up after speaking their minds just one time.

People here tend to assume you have spent five years in web research before speaking. I know better. It's ok to disagree, but my only advice is to disagree respectfully, point out the source of your conclusion, and be positioned to hear what the reaction is, until you come into your stride.

Welcome to the FR. It's a rough place for certain perspectives. But it is well worth putting up with the abuse. And, please understand this, our forum has a clear cut goal. I like to think our goal is Truth, though many would disagree. [If that goal ever changes, I'd be outa here.] If the message board administrator thinks you are full of baloney, you'll get banned permanently in a heart beat. I can put up with other viewpoints, however. Please feel free to private message me twelve times a day if you want. Ok?

Frustrate one liberal a day, that's all we ask. She must be on target to be catching flak the way she is.

McCarthy was right BUMP! Beware the Red Menace

I agree. Ann is very smart and very glib. Tough? She's tough enough, but I've seen tougher and I don't think that she's quite as tough as she'd like us to think. I've seen her seem to be genuinely hurt by the reactions of some.

perhaps I/your are confusing tough with mean?

Oh, I think she wants to sound mean when she says some of the outrageous things she says about others. That stuff has to be calculated to sound mean. I don't know, maybe it's her sense of humor that gets in the way for me, but I don't find the apparent nastiness to be all that genuine. Doesn't she just seem to be too happy to be all that nasty?

What with the castration comment? When did ann get the anti male reputation?

I saw that comment, too, and I'm not sure exactly where that part of her image is coming from, but I suspect that there are some folks who tend to think that strength/power in a woman must necessarily come at the expense of men. I don't see her as being anti-male at all and I don't think that she wants to be seen that way.

Here's a good one, though - can you imagine a woman like Ann really believing that women shouldn't be allowed to vote? ;-)

You absolutely must make the time.
. . . Defending McCarthy is a difficult tight rope for us to walk on. . . . The real challenge is for freepers to know just how far we can go defending McCarthy.
Actually, Ann--along with being factually accurate--is noted for clarity of exposition. She pushes you to think you should back McCarthy 'til you start to back off and say, "that's a bit too far". Then she gives you a zinger which makes you laugh at the idea of backing off, and you read further.

The net effect is that you finish the book resolved that liberals who talk about "McCarthyism" have no case. Conservatives should in future react to an allusion to "McCarthyism" with a blank, uncomprehending stare, forcing the liberal to cite chapter and verse right down the line, just the way Clinton did when stonewalling the legitimate beefs against him.
