07-29) 14:31 PDT LOS ANGELES (AP) --
A judge declared a hung jury Tuesday in the police brutality case against a white former officer who punched and slammed a handcuffed black teenager onto a squad car during a videotaped arrest.
The jury deliberated more than three days without reaching a verdict in a case that raised racial tensions and drew comparisons to the Rodney King beating.

I don't think the cop can be convicted, and I didn't think so a year ago. And I don't think he should be.

This is the cop whacking the black kid's head on the car hood, right? I read in the paper the other day how Inglewatts has mobilized hundreds of "peace monitors" for just this instance.
Hope it's not expected to be a hot-weather night there!

Quite frankly, I think the cop is lying about the kid grabbing his groin, I think he just roughed that kid up, and then the real scumbag is the second cop who whacked him across the face. BUT! The groin grab COULD be true, therefore, I didn't think there was much chance of getting a conviction.
I gotta blame the DA for bringing this to trial. If they decided not to, there would be some bad feelings and accusations, but big deal, happens all the time. Letting it go to trial opens up all sorts of ill racial feelings on both sides, and just poisons the air. Gee, nice job DA!

Back when this was being aired 1,000 times a day I made a tape and viewed it in slow motion. When the cop had the "child" handcuffed and was turning him toward the car, the kid suddenly went limp and the cop was thrown off-balance with the sudden dead weight. It looked like he hauled the kid up and slammed him on the trunk to keep them both from crashing to the ground.
As for the kid grabbing the cops privates, slow motion also showed the cop making the kind of grimace one makes when in pain.
That was my perception of it anyway, but you had to have watched it in slow motion to find the nuances.
It should also be noted that there was another video from the service station's camera that we were never shown -- I always wondered why we didn't get to see it, but maybe the jury did.
