Ok, McClintock bots:
I'm fed up with you torpedoing the chances for a Republican to be elected Governor of California.
Don't you realize that you're screwing up supporting a long-shot like Tom McClintock??? Don't you realize you'd be handing this recall to the Dems in a silver platter???
These are my reasons why, if I lived in CA, I'd support Arnold:
1) The chances of a hardcore conservative Republican being elected governor of California are slim to none: Might as well wait for a Green Party governor in Utah.
2) You could accuse me of compromising, but it's better a RINO than a hardcore, dyed-in-the-wool liberal than Davis or Bustamante. Those who say "principles before politics" are either living in Wonderland or are in serious drugs.
3) Splitting the Republican vote won't do any better, just keep California in liberal hands, spending like kings while the rest of the people gets the royal shaft up their...
4) THIS IS THE FREAKING REAL WORLD!!! Can be really nasty, but not always things go like we'd like them to go.
5) Hey, if Arnold delivers, it'd be the best investment Californians could've made in years. But if he screws up, it'll open the doors for a real conservartive.
Everytime I see someone campaigning for Tom "Yeah-You-Wish" McClintock, I'd like to b!tc#-slap him/her just to make him/her see that they're only hurting the chances for California to be rescued!!!
My 2 cents!!!
Speak your mind, if you dare!!!

I'm just damned glad that I don't live in California. Good to know there's a state the Dems have screwed up more than Maryland!

LET ME REPLY: As a supporter of Tom McClintock, Yours Truly you strike me as a TOTAL RINO. You want somebody to speak their mind. I'll speak my mine. ARE YOU A CONSERVATIVE OR A RINO? You don't live in California, so stay out of our business!!!!!!! I live here and pay the high taxes.
Here is what Arnold stands for:
1) He supported a $455 million per year after school program for kids. Are you a big government fan?
2) He wants businesses to come to California, so they can pay plenty of taxes and grow the government. Do you like big government?
3) Arnold said he is "ashamed" of the Clinton AND would never forgive the GOP for doing the impeachment. Do you think Bill deserved a pass?
If Bill Clinton joined the GOP, would you support him? I WILL VOTE FOR TOM MCCLINTOCK...and you can stuff your leftist tendencies.

Tom McClintock nearly beat Steve Westly for State Controller last year. He's a serious candidate with thoughtful and well informed positions on the issues. And we know what to expect from him in the event he's elected Governor. On the other hand, Arnold Schwarzenegger has never been in politics before. So far he's uttered generalities almost any one can agree with. Big deal. What is his political philosophy and how much of a role does he think government should play in our lives? They're important questions that deserve to be answered and no one should vote for Arnold just cause he's a famous celebrity. This election is not going to be handed to him on a platter and he has to show people why he deserves the job. There's no question our friend Tom is committed to Republican principles and values. So far Arnold is an unknown quantity.

The chances of a hardcore conservative Republican being elected governor of California are slim to none:That sums it up quite well.
Gallagher for Governor!
Just kidding. Arnold's our best (and perhaps only) hope.

From the small amount of anti-Arnold comments on FR, I'm guessing most CA freepers are going to vote for Arnold.
It would be interesting to take a poll of CA freepers to see who they are gonna vote for.

You're 100% correct !
Political naifs, who claim to "stand on principle ", don't understand policts at all and are just dog in the manger types. Most of them, here, would rather lose, time after time after time after time. Their so called " principles " NEVER get them them any closer to what they claim to want, than a spoiled, small child, who throws temper tantrums, whenever he/she isn't immediately given what they want. Temper tantrums may work on some VERY misguided parents' it NEVER works on other adults.
A wee look at voting practices, by one group, WILL prove what one changed party vote can and did do. Negros ( yes, it's an old term, but those are the times I'm talking about!) voyed solidly Republican, until FDR. After they pulled that Dem lever ONCE , they didn't look back.
Arnold isn't a far right, dyed in the wool Conservative; heck, he isn't Consservative at all. OTOH, he IS running as a Republican. He has " star " power, he can and WILL get people, who used to vote a straight Dem ticket, to pull the GOP lever. Absolutely NO OTHER candidate, running as a Republican, will get cross over votes; not a one !
To: El Conservador
It's time we all face the facts. California is a democratic party stronghold. Yeah a RINO could win much more easily than a conservative but the democrats would just tolerate him and find a better democrat to run against him in the meantime. If we really want to change the minds of people we should back a true fiscal conservative (Tom knows about budgets) and let the average dem voters see what he can do.

It seems you didn't read past the title of the thread.
If Arnold screws up or goes too liberal, you'll have your cahnce to kick him out of office.
It's a win-win situation, even for hadrcore conservatives like you.
Let's see: If Arnold goes too liberal, pander to every liberal special interest in California, and makes the mess bigger than it is (I hope that scenarion doesn't become reality), Californians will turn for a fiscal and social conservative without thinking it twice, because they'll see what a fraud Arnold is as a moderate Republican, but no one will want to repeat the Gray Davis experience.
But pressing for a true-blue Republican is impractical in California today, and it'll only bring another liberal fiasco to the already battered state.
