HEAD lice prevented a family from entering a court room yesterday to face charges that they breached a ban on owning pets.
Rachel Wetzig, 24, her mother Judith, 52, and brother Andrew, 27, were quarantined at the Brisbane Magistrate's Court yesterday.
They have previously been accused of keeping kittens in a budgie cage and starving dogs of water despite a ban which prevented them from keeping animals.
The family's Legal Aid lawyer, David Law, said his clients were at the courthouse yesterday but were not in the room because they had a contagious medical condition.
When pressed for an explanation, Mr Law said the condition was head lice.
Mr Law said Legal Aid had only recently been granted to the family, and asked for an adjournment to familiarise himself with the case.
Magistrate Bernadette McCallum agreed but said continual adjournments could mean the Wetzigs being hit with a hefty bill for costs by the RSPCA, which has brought the prosecution.
The Wetzigs were ordered to reappear next Friday.
