September 16, 2003 -- CNN news chief Jim Walton had a "private converation" with reporter Christiane Amanpour after she accused her own network of being "intimidated" in its coverage of the Iraqi war.

Amanpour, a guest on last week's "Topic A with Tina Brown" on CNBC, set off shockwaves in the TV world over the weekend when she said she thought her employer, CNN, was "muzzled" in its war coverage by a combination of the White House and its competitive position with the higher-rated Fox News Channel.

Watching Cnn International's run up to the speech delivered by Bush on Irak, I was apalled but not suprised to hear her state as a bold fact that Irak was a land of "chaos and anarchy."

She is not American; she works for a network which works against America; she married the spokesman for Clinton's State Department.

Let me remind you that it was her network, CNN, that refused to report that one of their Iraqi employees in their Baghdad bureau was kidnapped, jailed, and tortured for 2 weeks.

She can take her censorship and stuff it.

Right, it was disgusting. You can bet that CNN management is much more worried about that scandal reappearing than Armanpour's wimpers. I hope FR finds a way to kick up the dirt on that all over again.

I seem to remember CNN admitting earlier on that they were in fact cowed...by Saddam Hussein and further admitted to covering the news as he wanted it covered at times... Why isn't that mentioned in this article???

CNN GIVES CHRISTIANE 'PRIVATE' DRESS DOWN

Can you imagine those hazy nights when she and Jamie Rubin play dress up for a special 'BRIEFING?'

Yeech!

Did you notice who she was making these remarks to (there was video of her making the remarks)?

I saw it. It was on a PBS magazine/talk-show, forget the name. Other guest for the segment were Victoria ("Tory") Clark and Al ("I-can-only-sell-books-by-leaching-off-the-fame-of-conservatives") Franken.

Oh, right, CNBC, not PBS. (It just seemed like PBS).

Not only the scandal that CNN held back news to get access, Amanpour made a statement when it was clear that Bush had won the election, something like, "how could we let this happen?" She is anything but an objective reporter, and her mouth has gotten her in trouble more than once. She should be concerned about job security.

The NYT's reporter, John Burns, called out all his compadres who were engaged in sucking up to Saddam. It's a fascinating read. I found it through Andrew Sullivan's blog.

It has to be disheartening for CNN. They're not even in second place in most cases but a sluggish 3rd place and battling to get out of the basement and they have folks like Amanpour shoot their mouth off and make things even worse. They still think they can pass off liberal ideology for objective reporting and the public is not buying it.

I heard she had an affair with Baghdad Bob. She cut him off just before the war started. He kicked her butt out of the country.

FNC morning people talking about this now. Just said everytime they heard her, she was ripping into the military strategy and seemed to be working for the other side!

She is anti American.

Definitely. Moreover, she is boring even in her anti-Americanism: she takes the latest sentiment of the BBC (her aspiration group) and then sells it to the American audience. Today she holds against us --- also Israel and Western civilization in general --- exactly that which was made an issue by the BBC a day earlier. Boring and pathetic for someone who tries to come across as an intellectual.
