At the Unitarian Universalist Village Church on Sunday, the congregation will hear a presentation on “Understanding What and Who We Are as Natural Beings.” A question-andanswer session will follow. From the NPR sad-sack Garrison Keillor:
There are the folks in Lake Woebegon who have a big satellite dish and get 500 channels on their TV – including the surgery channel, the fishing channel, and the Unitarian Channel, which is what the fishing channel would be like if they didn’t actually put the fish hooks and lines in the water, but just sat around and discussed whether or not there really are fish.

Probably anything but sinful.

Hey, did you hear about the Mormon who converted to Unitarianism? He just keeps going door-to-door for no apparent reason!

The UU is not a church. It is a social gathering club

It is show-and-tell day at school, and all the children are requested to bring in an item which illustrates their religious beliefs. David stands up and says “This is a star of David and I am a Jew”. Dorothy stands up and says “This is a crucifix and I am a Catholic”. Jimmy stands up and says “This is a casserole and I am a Unitarian”.

Shortly after a woman began attending the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit, New Jersey, she found herself in a restaurant on Sunday noon. It was small establishment, with tables close together, and so she could not help overhearing the conversation at the table behind her. Two people were discussing their dissatisfactions with some aspect of the church they both attended. Suddenly, one of them asked, “Well, what do the Unitarians believe in?” Without a pause, the other replied, “Recycling!”

What would cause a crisis of faith in a Unitarian?
Offering one a choice between coffee hour and a discussion of coffee hour!

A Universalist church burned down and several other churches in town sent financial contributions. One church included a note which read: “I regret that church law prevents our giving to help build a new Universalist church, but here is a contribution to help you tear down what is left of the old one.”

Gods Rest Ye, Unitarians” (UU Version)

Gods rest ye, Unitarians, let nothing you dismay; Remember there’s no evidence there was a Christmas Day; When Christ was born is just not known, no matter what they say, O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact, Glad tidings of reason and fact.
Our current Christmas Customs come from Persia and from Greece, From solstice celebrations of the ancient Middle East. This whole darn Christmas spiel is just another pagan feast, O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact, Glad tidings of reason and fact.
There was no star of Bethlehem, there was no angels’ song; There could not have been wise men for the trip would take too long. The stories in the Bible are historically wrong, O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact, Glad tidings of reason and fact!

If Unitarians had to form a firing squad they would arrange themselves in a circle.

You might be a UU if . . .
you have ever been in an argument over whether or not breast milk is vegan.
when you dress for a formal evening out you wear a little black dress, pearls—and Birkenstocks (and your wife thinks you look great!)
you are unsure about the gender of God.
you own six pairs of Birkenstocks and your favorite pair needs to be thrown away.
you get Newt Gingrich confused with the Grinch who Stole Christmas.
the money you sent to the Sierra Club last year was more than you spent on your mother at Christmas.
you think the Holy Trinity is “reduce, reuse and recycle.”
you study the “ten suggestions” instead of the “Ten Commandments.”
the only time “Jesus” is mentioned at church is when someone trips or stubs a toe.
your child says to you before eating dinner at a friend’s house “I’ll remember to say my ‘pleases’ and ‘thank yous’ but I’m not going to say that dinner ‘pledge of alliegance’.”
You think a Holy day of Obligation is your turn to do coffee.
You get mail from committees you didn’t know you were on.
You know at least two people who are upset that trees had to die for your church to be built.

. . .or all things sinful - that are now, confirmed as 'natural'. (Might be getting rid of that 'sin' category, altogether).

Am sure we will get updates...

Ha Ha Ha!(those are GOOD!)

What does the KKK do when they are mad at a Unitarian?

They burn a Question Mark on his front lawn.

Jesus said to them, “Who do you say that I am?” The Unitarian Universalist replied “You are the eschatological manifestation of the ground of our being, the kerygma of which we find the ultimate meaning in our interpersonal relationships.” And Jesus said “What?”

I have no problem with unitarians being their muddle-headed selves if they want to be, I just bar it when a unitarian takes it upon himself to condemn MY beliefs when his own is flakier than a kid with bad dandruff

Talking of Birkenstock unitarians
As Unitarian Universalists who are also bourgeois bohemians, Bobos if you will, we must continue to follow, in the words of our own affirmation, "the free and disciplined search for truth." Maybe what Jesus told the rich young man was this: his quest for the truth was less than free, and his virtue not untainted. Jesus seems less interested in the abstract idea of goodness than in the bohemian willingness to follow the risky path. "Why do you call me good?" he asks the young man. "No one is good but God alone."

That is a very forgiving line. It is consoling, too, I suppose. The mysterious rabbi does not really care whether you fantasize or not about that nickel-plated fridge with full beverage service and the ice maker with fourteen different settings. He only cares whether it gets in the way of your freedom. Our search for truth must be disciplined, and it must be free, or it is no search at all.

Talk about spaced out!!

"The UU is not a church. It is a social gathering club" -->

Check out this UU website calling itself "the Gnostic Jesus"

Their description page says they are "We are a typically UU-diverse congregation of 118. We are scientists, engineers, teachers, doctors, lawyers, writers, social workers, civil servants, artists, unemployed, homemakers, professors, and more; We are humanists, spiritualists, christians, pagans, theists, atheists, and others: each of us seeking truth and meaning; all providing the comfort and nurture of community to all."

Typical liberal blah-blah

The UU's are the original libtards.

Very kind of you to say so!!!

A devout Christian was arguing with a UU about the existence of God. He said, “Ok, just prove there is no God.”

The UU said, “You can’t prove there is no God - you have take it on faith.”

Well, the discussions that I have had with OR have evolved into a concentration on the factual. What is actually written? I find that many of his questions and observations are quite useful to me. I get the occasional thing wrong, and I appreciate any assistance in correcting errors.

(From my Opera parody “The 21st Century so far c 2005)

Sing to the tune of :”In The Hall Of the Mountain King”

Joe Campbell on PBS says my God is a myth
Nietzsche writes a monograph that says my God is dead
Rosie Reuther says that God doesn’t like women much
The ayatollah says his god wants to cut off my head
Wiccans say that god has an “ess” at the end of it
Hindus say we’re reborn in an endless ring
Gaians say that god is the earth we are standing on
Pantheists say god is each and everything
Georgie Lucas says that god is a Force, good and bad
PETA says that god is anything that walks on fours
Dan Brown has a secret code that will lead you to god
(I think it’s a scheme to sell more French Museum tours!)

Some folks think that God is Green
Out of a cash machine
Some think that he’s made of gold and lives inside a vault
Some folks think that God needs cash
Send it in, send it fast
Otherwise His work will stop
And it will be YOUR fault!

If I die, and nothing’s there..
Unaware, I won’t care
It will make no difference if my Faith is somehow wrong
BUT if the reverse is true,
Heaven help
those folks who
Stood against the King of Kings their whole life long.

That is good. A sensible question or a civil debate, even if it is completely against what we believe in, is far different from the old senseless attacks
