Tiger Woods Fails to Prove Himself a ‘Better Man’
The Christian Diarist ^ | April 13, 2013 | JP

I’m a huge Tiger Woods fan. That’s why it pains me that he continues to do damage to his once-nearly-pristine image.

Having recently reclaimed his sport’s ranking as World No. 1 – as the Euros put it – Tiger flew this week to Augusta, Georgia as the favorite to win the Masters.

He acquitted himself rather well the tourney’s first two days, save for a mishap yesterday on the 15th hole. He hit an approach shot to the green that, as bad luck would have it, ricocheted off the flag pole and careened into the creek.

After taking a “drop” – which entailed a one stroke penalty – Tiger hit his next shot on the green, sank the putt and rocked on to the next hole. As it turns out, the world’s most famous golfer made an improper drop, for which he should have been penalized another two strokes.

Tiger signed his scorecard without including the two penalty strokes and left the golf course. This morning he learned of his error, which meant he signed his Friday scorecard incorrectly.

In every case I’ve ever heard, a golfer who signs an incorrect scorecard in tournament play is disqualified. Yet, the green jacketed powers-that-be at Augusta National somehow found a way not to disqualify Tiger.

And even though I had looked forward this weekend to seeing whether my favorite golfer could win the fifth Master’s championship of his career, I think Augusta’s green jackets made the absolute wrong decision.

Nevertheless, the Bible advises “that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

I believe the Almighty, in His infinite grace, gave Tiger an opportunity to redeem himself in the eyes of many of those who have not gotten past his serial adultery with who knows how many harlots, which defiled his marriage and left a lasting scar upon his faithful wife, the mother of his two beautiful children.

Oh, how I hoped that Tiger would say that, even though Augusta’s powers-that-be had not disqualified him for his rule-breaking – had tempted him with preferential treatment – he had decided to disqualify himself. Even though doing so would cost him the Masters.

But Tiger did not enter today through the narrow gate, of which the Word of God speaks. He chose the wide gate, the broad way that leads to destruction.

In 2010, Tiger delivered a mea culpa in which he told a national television audience, “I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior.” He promised “to be a better man.” And he confided he was returning to the Buddhist faith of his youth, which his Thai mother instilled in him.

Well, the events of today suggest that Tiger is not the better man he promised to be. And I am persuaded he will remain a lost soul until, hopefully, he comes to Jesus.

For when a man is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old things are passed away. All things become new.

Tiger Woods, like The Messiah, is a half-breed, and although he once had a tremendous steroid-enhanced body and physical skill, once his mental ego was crushed when his diddlings caused his blonde trophy-wife to leave him, he was no longer feared by opponents. His intimidation evaporated when young-blood new golfers knew he COULD be beaten, and has NOT been the same since.

For the fools who follow celebrity as some sort of God-like attraction, he remains defended despite rule-breaking, rule-bending, and ONLY because he is touted as "Black" is he a feature that draws hangers-on and Politically Correct followers. He no longer commands the Endorsement Contracts he had previously, and his attitude is arrogant, beyond belief.

I was at the Masters in 1998, when Mark O'Meara won, yet the bulk of the attention and media coverage ALWAYS includes Woods, even when he's not even on the Leader Board. Likewise, you will see the Leaderboard on the Networks with his name listed, even though he is not contending amongst the leaders, and may be in 15th place, when they list the Top Ten Leaders, plus a bottom line of Tiger Woods position and score. Even when the Leaders are hitting shots, the cameras are on Woods, missing live action of the players who are at THE TOP.

Get over it....he's a has-been.

"Golf realized that the scorecard rule is antiquated and overly harsh, so they gave themselves a way to mitigate it - they use that mitigation now- and people go beserk."

ROFL

Yeah; you can apply your same whole-cloth argument to the U.S. Constitution, like the Liberals/Progressives/Socialists do....it's "Antiquated and overly harsh", too, in THEIR minds.

When Bobby Jones was once praised for calling a penalty on himself that no one else noticed, he replied "You might as well praise a man for not robbing a bank as to praise him for playing by the rules."

Worshipped for being Black, having suffered from slavery, Jim Crow, and all other sins of the society. Worship uniting the nation across the political spectrum. Worship of the untalented singers, actors, film directors, all for their being black.

I’ve had Tiger’s number since the lynching of Fuzzy Zoller.

You a fan of Freddy Couples?

Seen alot of mistakes at the Pro level.

Saw an interview with Ben Crenshaw this morning on the Golf Channel and he stated that there has never been a tournament he has played in where he hasn't had to call a rules official over to discuss a potential shot penalty......

As a side note, why are the Woods detractors so focused on him and yet there is no mention about the total lack of television coverage of Scott Piercy? Point being, every shot Woods makes is being televised and viewed by millions and subjected to scrutiny. And yet a golfer such as Piercy gets no coverage at all and thus no chance of having committed a penalty that only a viewer would notice........

just sayin'......

The committee decided to penalize him for cheating. But let him play on? OMG! Bobby Jones is rolling over in his grave.

Cheating??? Your bias against Woods is evident for all to see. He didn't cheat and the tournament rules committee gave a full explanation as to what happened..........since you obviously never watched it or read it, here's a link...........

All of the discussion on this thread about something as idiotic as signing a scorecard is what makes me so proud to be a fan of this kind of "golf":

Golf would be better ... if it were hockey.

Learn the new rule on the outdated antiquated scorecard rule - 33-7. Augusta applied this new rule absolutely correctly.

Agreed. I don't care for Tiger anymore, but gentlemen like Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson always said to let the rules work for you whenever possible.

So let's supplement the instant replay of professional baseball, football and basketball and give all TV watchers an opportunity to show why the officials (umpires or referees) erroneous calls wrongly decided the winner of the game.

The Masters officials made their ruling after the placement of the ball. Subsequently a TV caller raised an issue. The original decision of the Masters officials then got reversed. So lets do the same for all sports professional and amateur.

Maybe we should also require a pimp of the legal industry (a lawyer) to be present in a position to override the game officials. This could really be a windfall for the legal industry!

Tiger Woods is a deeply flawed role model. This is another case that proves he's still not walking the walk while talking the talk. Tiger is a hypocrite.

Tiger Woods is a deeply flawed role model.

So who set him up as a role model? In fact, who attempts to make any athlete out to be a "role model" if not your MSM?

You know as well as I do that they're more than willing to create a so called "role model" just so they can destroy him.........

"Maverick McCain" comes to mind..........When was the last time you ever heard that term?
