Never once did I say “end it now.” I said work with your doctors. The fact is, all the Christians on here are insisting that God brings love, joy, peace, and happiness. If a sufferer isn’t feeling it, is it because God is doing something wrong? Well, no, that can’t be, can it? It must be the sufferer. Look at the things you and others are saying to him: seek God, pray, open your heart, look to him, blah blah blah... all the things he’s been DOING FOR YEARS. It’s not working. Why? Well... he’s doing it wrong. That’s what you are telling him. If he cannot feel God’s peace, the fault lies with him, not God. Right?

He might actually be doing “right” things (as much as prevenient response is concerned) and still not quite have reached the peace, that doesn’t mean he is not pointed in an appropriate direction.

You didn't use those exact words, but I got your drift. In this imaginary world you speak of "with no God: Imagine a world where rewards and punishments seem to be handed out in a wheel-of-fortune-like, random manner, where much does not make sense, you can never tell what will happen from day to day, and no one seems to be in charge... see the world for the random, lonely, and ungoverned place it is. Once you get used to seeing it for what it is, learn to make the best of it. There's nothing out there but stars. But at least your thoughts are your own."

Where is any encouragement to continue your life? If someone is in pain - physical, emotional or both - and there is nothing to look forward to BUT perhaps a continuation of that, then why would someone want to go on? ESPECIALLY if one is convinced there is nothing but annihilation afterward? What kind of hope can that provide?

But, here's the thing, there IS something intrinsic in the human psyche that seeks for God. How did it get there? Since the dawn of mankind there has been this acknowledgment of a higher power, a Creator, something, someone bigger than what we see, the "first cause". That's why there ARE so many different religions out there...it is man seeking to "bind himself back to" that someone/something creator. None of the atheists and agnostics out there can explain it.

We don't always know why people suffer, why "good" people suffer and, it seems, the "bad" people never do. This dilemma is not a new thing. King David wrote about it in one of his Psalms, Psalm 73:

Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

    When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.
