Southern Baptists tell pastors: hold line on gays
Associated Press ^ | Oct 28, 2014 8:50 PM EDT | Rachel Zoll

More than a thousand evangelical pastors and others—gathered for a three-day conference to steel the resolve of Christians who preach that gay relationships are sinful—were asked a simple question: How many live in a state that recognizes same-sex marriage?

Hands rose all across the convention hall.

“This moral revolution is happening at warp speed,” said the Rev. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. “This is a real challenge to us on biblical authority.”

Speakers at the event said they understood they were on the losing end of the culture war on marriage. But they were prepared to be the voice of a moral minority because gay marriage is a “rejection of God’s law,” according to Mohler. He said evangelicals needed to have “a lot of agonizing conversations” about how to move forward. …

Church leaders are media hounds, fame seekers, culture capitulators, money grubbers, week kneed, sissified therapists, emotion driven, yellow-bellied, scaredy-cat girly boys.

John 15
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

It seems that the definition of Persecution today is just not being as popular as you would like so every one of them wants to be popular.

Even though they may see it the same as i do they will use words that I do not even know to water it down to lose the effect.

I have noticed that the majority of them will preach on the little sins or imagined sins which every one has according to some one else, they are safe from persecution by doing that.

But when it comes to the abomination of gays they do not like to voice their opinion.

So if they are afraid to tell it like it is maybe they should not let themselves get in a position to even talk about it.

They have made so many people believe that the utopia on earth is about to begin or that the followers of Christ will be taken out.

Rev 6
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

I am anything but a Bible scholar but this tells me that we should expect Christians to go through a persecution.

If we are the fellow servants or the brethren of those who were killed in the early persecutions then it means us.

Is a Christian some one who does not drink coffee and smoke cigarettes or is it some one who would put their neck under a guillotine rather than deny Christ?.

Fighting arianism in the early church, Athanasius was told that the world was against him.

His reply was, “Then Athanasius is against the world”

I've never heard of this man before your post. I like the way he talks!

Are you capable of obeying God 100%?

Seems to me there has only been one man who met that standard. There’s another slogan, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son”

The point of my slogan is believers in Christ are following the Creator and good things are happening in this world. We are in a position of strength despite the backsliding in Western Europe and America.

No, Islam’s not the Beast. The “therion” referred to an extant entity in the time of the Apostles, and there was no Islam back then.

Also, check into Walid Shoebat.

I am persuaded these are true and relevant.

I think the “agonizing conversations” are two-fold:

1) It’s the conversations they’re going to have to have with their congregations. If they stand their Biblical ground and cling to the truth, some may, for whatever reason, disagree and possibly leave the church....taking their money with them. If enough people leave...well, many pastors are afraid that their church will have to close up shop. If they do stand their ground, I think God will provide-it’s just that they may have forgotten that...or don’t believe it.

2) The other “agonizing conversations” are the homosexuals themselves (or their families), screaming vitriol in their faces, threatening bankrupting lawsuits and/or physical violence due to their “unaccepting” behavior.

Well you certainly describe a good many of preachers I agree.
But there are exceptions, though rare, and more so by the day.
I was fortunate to go to FBC Wichita Falls when Dr. Robert Jeffress was the head pastor.
He’s legit (notice I didn’t say perfect) but he’s in the minority.

What a blessing! I have enjoyed the few videos I have seen of his preaching. I’m from Dallas & my mom has a close friend who has attended First for 30 years or more so keep up with him a bit through her.

Yes Dr. Jeffress is truly an incredible preacher.
He is a tremendous teacher of scripture, and his passion for it is as genuine as they come.
He went on local TV in WF to debate a lesbian “pastor” about what the Bible says regarding homosexuality.
He obviously crushed her in no time flat.
He predicted back in 1998 that in 10-15 years the church would begin to see the virtual criminalization of Bible teaching pastors being faced with overt persecution.
Many people scoffed.
He might have been off by a few years, but not by much.

You can look up Dr. Robert Jeffress on YouTube for bold and unequivocal stances he has taken over the years.
He is a very articulate advocate for Biblical Christianity.
I’m blessed to know him. My dad is one of his good friends.
And my dad doesn’t have friends who aren’t quite radical.

“However, some speakers took a harder line. Erik Stanley of the Alliance Defending Freedom, the law firm defending Christian business owners and others who refuse to serve gay weddings, said it was a myth that the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming, was a hate crime. He argued gays wanted “unfettered sexual liberty” while silencing all dissent.”

This guy is better than Mohler and Moore.

“You’ve been given a mission of reconciliation,” Moore told the audience. “Jesus is not afraid to speak the truth, but Jesus is not shocked by people or disgusted by people.”

Maybe Moore ought to read John 6. Jesus had no qualms about driving people away if they would not repent. He wasn’t afraid to talk to sinners, but He also expected them to repent. He never accepted their sin. He was not agonized by preaching the truth.

This is the part that I think nails it:

“He argued gays wanted “unfettered sexual liberty” while silencing all dissent.””

There is no compromising because the other side wants Christians DESTROYED.

I don't think he was suggesting God can't handle any given problem.

His point is that (if I'm understanding correctly) churches need to address the issue head on and stand firm on the unchanging truth of God's word.
To do otherwise is to implicitly condone or affirm the homosexual movement sweeping across the country.

The church (Born again Christians/ body if Christ) doesn't have to worry or become fixated or obsessed with the issue. But it does need to unequivocally state that homosexuality is an abomination before our Holy and perfect God, and the church will NOT be changing its position on issues just because laws and/or society/ other churches are changing. The Word of God is our unchanging standard regardless of whatever around us changes.

For instance, a gay couple that come as “newly weds” to church should in no way be affirmed- and teachings regarding marriage and family don't apply to them. That is not a Biblically recognized marriage.

Yes It's true that no problem is bigger than God, but God won't do for us what he has equipped and called us to do for Him through His power.
