Good article.
Thanks for posting it.
I DO NOT believe in replacement theology. I believe that the church of the first decade following the Resurrection of Jesus was TOTALLY made up of Jewish believers in the Messiah. Then, largely under the influence of Paul, the Gentiles were “grafted in” to the vine of this body of Jewish believers. Thus, the Church IS the Jewish remnant, with Gentiles grafted in to its members.
What is interesting is that this historic fact makes their 1st pope Peter out of the will of God that made him the apostle to the jews
“Thus, the Church IS the Jewish remnant, with Gentiles grafted in to its members.”
You were doing great up until that point.
Can't we all?
Neither do I.
That would GOD would have UN'chosen' His people at some point in time; and there is no evidence this has occurred.
good post. thanks.
I know - it doesn’t always make sense - I just follow the word:
If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. (from Romans 11)
“But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. “
Continue reading. God isn’t done with Israel yet... [here, not to mention the extensive prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures].
The prophecies of Hebrew scriptures were fulfilled (completed) in Christ. He fulfilled the law, so that we were no longer bound by it. That is the real key. We are Israel in a New Covenant - the old has past away. “The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming . . “ (Heb. 10:1)
“For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance - now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. (Heb. 9:15). We are the Israel of the New Covenant - the Old Covenant will never return!
You will have to explain God’s unfulfilled promises to Israel and His broken covenant with Abraham and David, to hold to your claim... Let alone the promise about Israel in the Romans passage.
Yes, but I am reffering to the history of the Roman church-there were Roman Jews at Pentecost...
It is not a broken covenant - it is a fulfilled covenant! Jesus completed the full letter of the law, and left us blameless to the demands of the law. The law could never make us free, only bound to sin. In Jesus we are free indeed! Free of the law, and free of the Old Covenant - Jew and Gentile alike - there is no difference. We now find ourselves - like Adam and Eve before they sinned - fully blameless and in full restoration with God! We can now walk with Him in the cool of the evening - not naked, but clothed in the righteousness of Jesus. Please, do not miss what has been purchased for us at such a great price. The Old Covenant of the Law has been fulfilled and the New Covenant of Grace is in place - there cannot be two “covenants” working at the same time. The old passes away so the new can flourish. Praise God!!!
.....”That error is called Replacement Theology, the false teaching that the church of Jesus Christ is the new Israel of God, and that other than coming into the church as individuals, God has no ultimate plan for the physical children of Israel”......
I had a dear God-mother who believed that the church is the “New” Israel, it was the only bone of contention we had regarding the faith. She was a woman of God’s Word so we would really go at it.
She would always come to the place where her silence spoke volumes as she digested whatever the last scripture reference and question I might raise........and soon after she wouldn’t discuss it further.
I loved her greatly but we surely did disagree on that note.
I understand the arguments but they always seem to take on the same twisting and churning, and jumping thru hoops of scripture in order to make them fit what they want to believe, rather than believe what the scripture says. Often reminds me of catholic debates.
...” God isnt done with Israel yet.”....
Amen!
Is your hope the return of Jesus Christ and the kingdom 1 Th 2:19 (parousia), or his appearing Tit 2:13 (epiphaneia)?
AHhhh...
Without understanding Israel's place in prophecy no one can understand what's happening in the world today.
No, the "church" is not the Jewish remnant. There are seven years left of Danials prophesy for the Jews. The Israelite people are being gathered back to their land as prophesied and as God promised they would be.
