There has been a recent surge in conversions to Zoroastrianism among Kurds at home and abroad.
Andaz Hawezi, chief of the Zoroastrian Temple in Sweden says thousands have joined the faith.
In 2011 he was elected to lead the temple. Zoroastrianism is one of the world’s oldest religions to which most Kurds trace their ancestral faith.
Hawezi says not all the new converts or followers are Kurds. There are Arabs, Turks, Persian, Swedish, Polish, British and other nationalities.
“We hope to come back to Kurdistan. That’s why we named the Temple Kurdish Zoroastrian.” Hawezi says.
The Temple in Sweden is now working to gain permission from the Kurdish government to open its temple in the Kurdistan Region.
At the moment its members meet in Sulaimani city.
“As a religion we must be everywhere. If we get permission to work here we would do our works in every part of the Kurdistan Region.” Hawezi told Rudaw in an interview.

I wonder how many are Muslims who want to reject Islam AND Arab nationalism, and the biggest “f-u” they can give to ISIS is to deliberately become pagan.

I’m thinking of a black rock in middle of a desert, to which they must pay one visit in their life, and very possibly be killed in a wild stampede.
There are other Islamic rituals, such as ‘stoning the devil’, which are definitely Pagan practices.
Zoroastrians are NOT Pagan—The believe in two gods—a good god and an evil god and they are fighting for mens souls. The Magi in the Birth of Jesus story were Zoroastrian Priests. Islam hates the worse than they hate Christians, Jews and Dogs.

Yes, I’m one of those “intolerant” Christians.
I read somewhere that vast amount of Manichean documents were found in China. Followers of Manichaeism were instrumental in bringing down Yuan Dynasty of Mongols and ushering in Ming Dynasty of Han Chinese. They were later purged by Ming Dynasty. The enduring Chinese religious cult, White Lotus, was heavily influenced by Manichaeism.
I think people in Mid-East should reconnect with their ancient roots, if they want Mid-East to be a great civilization it once was.
Far more humane than Islam. Good for them.
Are these are the ones whose remains are supposed to be exposed to the elements and eaten by vultures and crows? I always thought that was pretty hardcore, as in the family has to care enough to make sure it gets done right and it seems pretty tough I guess from western Christian eyes. Seems like a pretty big commitment. Freddie Mercury was one of these folks to my understanding, don’t know if he was disposed of that way or not.

Manicheanism came centuries after Zoroastrianism, during Parthian (Arsacid) dynasty, was invented by an Arsacid “Iranian” (not Persian) named Mani. Its theology draws upon & mixes elements from Zoroastrianism, Christianity & Buddhism.

Actually, there are many Zoroastrians by birth in Iran at present. Problem is that because the regime is an Islamic theocracy, those converting from Islam to Zoroastrianism cannot openly admit to it, because they’ll be thrown in prison or executed.

They used to do that centuries ago, in “Towers of Silence” well away from urban areas. Nowadays Zoroastrians in Iran and abroad, even in India, are either buried in coffins or cremated.
I have no problem with however they do it, hope it works out for them however they do it, God willing. They care enough about something enough to carry it out anyhow. But I recall stories about modern pesticide poisoning of carrion birds that affected their funeral rites negatively. Could it be that they have the equivalent of ‘old order Mennonites’ who still use the old ways in modern times or something?
