We can’t have our own personal understanding of Scripture that goes against the official interpretation of the Church.

We also can’t go against the official teachings of the Pope.

The four words preceding Pope in the above sentence are very important.

This Pope has some problems in exercising his office.

There are methods for giving teachings weight. The Hereneutic of Continuity is powerful.

So his statements in support of Islam and against Catholic teachings are not official teachings of the Pope?

“We also can’t go against the official teachings of the Pope.”

If the Pope is teaching something that doesn’t square with the Teachings of the Church & the Gospel of Our Lord, Jesus Christ this thankful Catholic convert is certainly going against the Pope as best I can. There is precedent for this in the book of Acts. Paul charitably stood against Peter as I recall because Peter was wrong.
