What's you problem with 5th graders?

Their spelling for starters.

Correct.

Same way He guides the faithful in the selection of a college major, a career or a spouse: by faith, not by force. I wouldn’t want to imply that His providential guidance overrides human free will.

When a person walks in error he a bad example. When a person walks in truth he is a good example.

Sometimes,on different issues or at different times, that's the same person.

Recognizing this, and distinguishing the one from the other, is not hypocrisy.

WE follow Jesus, not man.

Something Catholics seem to collectively not be able to wrap their minds around as non-Catholics are CONSTANTLY reprimanded for following Luther.

But I don’t see that the Catholic church has any better suggestions.

Like Francis?

“Get behind me, Satan”.

It’s in the Bible.

Every Roman Catholic identifies as Christian. Catholics do not call themselves “Catholic Christrians” because it is redundant and unnecessary. Ignoring that fact does not make it go away.

And when I've asked someone if they are a Christian and they respond with *No, I'm a Catholic*, then what?

You cannot possibly say that EVERY Catholic identifies as a Christian because you cannot speak for all Catholics. That would require knowing every single Catholic and how they answer.

Yes, I can answer for every Catholic, because anyone who is not a Christian is not a Catholic. Christianity is the basis of the Catholic religion. Anyone who claims to be Catholic but not Christian is a liar.

As I said, Catholics do not label themselves “Catholic Christians” because being Catholic makes one a Christian by definition. It would be like saying ‘I am a surgeon doctor’.

The only way I would think that a Catholic would answer the way you say they did is to make it clear that they were not a Protestant Christian, since many Protestants would assume that was the case if you answered that question affirmatively without clarifying. I’m sure if you would have asked further, they would have explained that.

Love,
O2

>> Ealgeone claims he’s neither a Catholic, nor a a Protestant. I reckon he may be a a martian. <<

Heh. There is a third possibility. If a person is a Christian and neither Catholic nor Protestant, they could be Eastern Orthodox.

The protestants here like to ignore them (even though there are more Orthodox Christians worldwide than any protestant denomination!) since the Orthodox believe in the same "unbiblical" things (infant baptism, veneration of saints, marian prayers, scripture & tradition, etc.) that protestants false claim "only the Catholics" do. I guess 300 million non-Catholics doing that stuff doesn't count.

There is a third possibility.

For statistical purposes, the Pew Research identifies four categories of Christians, as follows.

Catholic (50.1%) 1.1 billion

- Western church
- 22 Eastern Rite churches

Protestant (37.7%) 801 million

- historic Protestant
- Anglican
- independent Christians

Orthodox Christians (12%) 260 million

other Christian traditions (1%) 28 million

- Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons)
- Jehovah’s Witnesses
- Christian Science Church
- Unification Church
- Swedenborgians
- Christadelphians
- other

I don’t give a rip about what Luther has to say on Mary or any other subject.

His opinions do not influence me or affect me in the least.

That is about the way i look at it although i have nothing against him.

My appreciation of him is merely because he had the gumption to tell the world that the Church was adding to and taking away from what their own Bible said.

why are so many of your threads devoted to one megachurch pastor that pays himself $1 million a year?

They make them caucus threads so they aren’t attacked by trolls!

The threads I post are not devoted to a man. They are not about him.

They are looking at Scripture and what Scripture has to say.
