>>That prompted Bell to write the best-selling “Love Wins,” and release a video promoting it that began with the pastor saying: “Gandhi’s in hell? He is? And someone knows this for sure? “

No one knows for certain but Gandhi was no saint, that’s for sure.

What riled up conservative Christians was “Love Wins,” then a new book by Bell in which he rejected the belief that anybody who doesn’t accept Jesus as the Son of God will spend eternity in a fiery hell.

“Misguided and toxic,” Bell called such thinking, prompting evangelist Franklin Graham, among many others, to brand him a heretic. A pastor in rural Henderson, N.C., even lost his job after he posted a note on Facebook supporting Bell’s book.

An amusing rejoinder: Robbed Hell

Do we really believe that the path to eternal life is narrow? So narrow that not even atheist hippy pop stars will make it in?

“Ways of reading the Bible and understanding the story have been so hijacked and bastardized – especially in very religious cultures

Like Mohammed's?

And devout Atheists'?

Another elitist telling us how to do things.

Oh and he’s wrong.

The Bible is very specific on what one must do and how to live to gain access to the kingdom of Heaven.

No man can achieve it on their own without Jesus to cover his sins.

The invention of the printing press forced the catholic church through a “purification” process and also began Protestantism. It put the word of God into the hands of the common man, where it belonged.

The internet is like the invention of the printing press on steroids. It is sending the entire christian church through a purification. This man is spot on and, thanks to the internet, his words can be exposed, criticised, discussed on their merit or lack thereof.

That is a good thing.

The CI movement is exploding all over the internet. I first heard of it right here on FR seven years ago and became an adherent in less than a week. And sites like this: http://jewishnotgreek.com make the plain case.

Too many people have tried to redefine plain words especially for the bible to alter its meaning. More and more, these people are being exposed and the bible is being allowed to stand on what it says, not on what people want it to say.

I’m just finishing this right now:
https://www.helltruth.com/free-resources/video-library/id/1582/hellfire-conspiracy-exposed-

He lays it out pretty clear. No, I’m not part of the same denomination as him, but I share his views on this subject.

There are a lot of things changing.

Too many people see the bible as a book. It’s not. It is a collection of books, songs, visions and letters. It is wrong to say “it” is the word of God. Rather, it CONTAINS the word of God. I can prove it quite easily. When Paul says it is him speaking and not God, those are not God’s words. They are his. And they are in the bible. To say the bible is the word of God is to say those very words spoken by paul are the word of God. That would be a lie.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

>>“This is a story about an enemy of the state who is executed. The resurrection story was the vindication of the Jesus way ... The world is made better through sacrificial love, not coercive military violence.”

It’s a story of unrequited love, God loves even the Atheists who deny His existence and mock His Son who gave His life for our sins.

It isn’t the story of capital punishment, the public (humanity) called for Barabbas to be set free instead of Jesus.

One of the major problems in our day and time isn’t just that people don’t know the truth. It’s that they don’t even believe that truth is important.

I share his views on this subject.

Psalm 138:2

I will worship toward thy holy temple,
and praise thy name
for thy lovingkindness
and for thy truth:
for thou hast magnified thy word
above all thy name.

Listening to him reveals that he is not quite honest here. Sure God is love, but there is more to it then just love wins. Instead he comes off as someone who wants to recreate Christianity as he sees it.

I still prefer the traditional message I guess. Because he requires us to change our ways to a more righteous path, and without that sacrifice I think the road to reside in God's grace in unattainable.

Mr. Bell might be wise to follow his own advice, to read the Bible ‘literately’. Jesus spoke plainly when He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. NO ONE comes through the Father except through the Son.” In other texts, Jesus refers to Himself as the ‘Son of Man’. ‘Son of Man’ was a Messianic title (viz. Daniel 7:13-14).

In Luke 4:17-21, Jesus first read from Isaiah 61:1-2, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” That was a description of the Messiah prophesied of, by Isaiah. Jesus rolled up the scroll, sat down and then told those in the synagogue that, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” in other words, He claimed to be their Messiah.

As CS Lewis put it (I’m paraphrasing here), ‘Jesus is either an exceptional liar, a lunatic, or else He is who He claims to be, the Messiah, God. There is NO OTHER CHOICE AVAILABLE.’ IF He is who He claims, then there ARE no errors in the Word. If there were errors in the Old Testament, Jesus, the God-Man, would have corrected these errors amongst His disciples, if not all who He spoke to. IF He is NOT who He claims to be, then as Paul put it, we (Believers) are to be pitied above others.

Yes, Mr. Bell, you would be wise to read the Bible ‘literately’. ‘Cherry picking’ which Scriptures to believe are ‘man inspired’ versus ‘God-breathed’, as Paul describes it, is to disbelieve a part of Scripture. If the Bible is not 100% correct, then it is worthless, useful only for kindling, fish wrap or tissue paper.

AFA people misquoting and massacring the Bible, misusing it for their own purposes, yes, that often happens but it could well be argued that if they are doing so on purpose, they are inviting judgement on themselves. That is their problem.
