Some families just don’t deserve it. Toxic people exist, some of them breed. I go out of my way to make sure neither my mother (who thinks no holiday is complete without a screaming argument) nor mother-in-law (who thinks no sentence is complete without bickering and condescension) get a chance to mess up my holidays. Holidays should be spent with people you love, and if that includes your family awesome, but if it doesn’t that OK too.
No, Thanksgiving is not a “holy-day.”
Sharing a meal with friends is a very Christian thing to do. Before my husband and I had children, we always had single friends join us for Thanksgiving.
Last night at church, our pastor said that anyone who would otherwise be alone could join him for dinner - “Please! People give me way too much food!” - “Or I’ll bet there will be plenty with the Tax-chick family!”
Thanksgiving is not a holy day. Is this another attempt to impose Christianity on pagan rituals? Is there to be no respite from Jesus?
