Disasterous Holidays Sent: Saturday, January 6, 2018 12:16 AM
Some of you may have noticed that I was off the compute for awhile. When I got back on, I was faced with 160 messages to wade through but I am writing to tell you what has happened on & since Christmas day. On Christmas Day when we were opening gifts, my speech became garbled, and my thinking sort of disappeared, so Peggy came up & took me to the hospital. She was the only localfamily member still functioning. Jeff & Karen & Debbie had then flue and Merrilee had to stay away from ALL of us because she had a pending hip replacement coming up & didnt dare take a chance on catching something.
Back to us. On Christmas Peggy took me to ER. I had over a 5 degree temp which caused my delirium. Yes, I had the flue. I had already had my flue shot, but was told that this year they were only 20% effective. I was in the hospital three days. They were so desperate for beds that they were discharging all flue patients when they got their temps down to normal. After three days they sent me to a local nursing home. I was there five days. I couldnt get to sleep in their bed, so they brought in a reclining chair & I slept in that for five nights. I was then discharged to home (alone) and have been batching ever since though Barb and the kids worry that I may crash with my diabetes and there will be no one here to catch it ( I have a history of doing that). Where is Barbara in all of this? Let me tell you!!
Within two days after Christmas (by the way we had Becky here as a house guest over Christmas to spend Christmas with us and attend the church activities with us which she greatly enjoyed & Debbie took her back to her assisted living facility in McConnelsville one hour away [ Becky has progressive dementia but still functions fairly well]) Barbara, at this point on the verge of collapse from all the stress, called the squad to take her to the hospital and she was admitted. The strain of all this on top of a severe weight loss that had her down to 123 pounds and leaving her very fragile ,was just too much for her. She too was in the hospital a number of days to address her dehydration, and to stabilize her. She was then sent to the same nursing home I was in but on the same day I was leaving. That was on January 2nd. I saw her in the lobby for 1 and 1/2 minutes, gave her a kiss, and that was it. I have had no other contact with my Barbara ( I cant drive) and here it is January 5th. We missed Christmas, our 44th anniversary, and New Years together. Two whole weeks and I miss her. During this time she went back to the hospital and had another wire added to her pacemaker to increase her blood-flow to improve her energy level and giving her IVs to improve her appetite. I talked to her on the phone and her voice sounded MUCH improved if that is a good sign! ...and I choose to think it is. I would ask that you please include us in your prayers.
I cant close without mentioning Peggy. She has sacrificed HUGE amounts of her family time to take care of us and doing a huge amount of driving to get all of this done for us; everything from our back and forth stuff to the hospital and nursing home, to hauling me home, , to a grocery trip, to clothing trips for Barb, and throw in a banking trip, check writing on our behalf etc. She has truly done an incredible job and I know she was worn out but we do thank her.

Hello to all,
I wanted to update you.
Rodger/Gramps is in Marietta Memorial Hospital. Debbie took him Saturday evening. He was having difficulty breathing and it is due to fluid buildup in his lungs causing his heart to have to work harder as well. I spoke with him a little while ago. He is very tire and not feeling well as you can imagine. He asked that no one call right now as it is hard to talk and breathe, and wears him out. He is in Room 3306.
Barb/Mom/Grammy is in the Arbors at Marietta, Rm B3. I have not been able to talk to her yet but last I heard she was feeling better and getting the rest she needs.
I will keep you up to date as I know anything.
Please keep all in your thoughts and prayers.
Jamie
Thank You in advance.
