Naming and thinking of it as _old_ Testament leads modern man to it being irrelevant.
= = =
Or worse, some think (maybe subconsciously) that if some concept is in the OT, it is no longer in effect, or it is even wrong.
Such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, etc., being in the OT, were wrong then, but NOT now.
.
We don’t need no steenking prophecies!

>> “Such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, etc., being in the OT, were wrong then, but NOT now.” <<
You’re getting close!
.
Those prohibitions were so wrong that we should now encourage them?
.
Those prohibitions are the glue that holds society together.
The destroyers have been in charge for quite some time.
Because it helps us understand why we need Christ.
As Augustine wrote:
The New Testament is in the Old Testament concealed, the Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed.
I do love the OT. I just finished a study of the kings and want to go through the prophets and put the prophecies in with my notes from the kings. LOTS OF FUN.
Also, I like to wonder about the reign of the Messiah and since the apple didn’t fall far from the tree, knowing the Father is good.
How can one not study the OT? Christ is intertwined into almost every passage.
Studying the New testament while ignoring the Old Testament, would be like would be like teaching calculus to a person who has no understanding of basic math.
When God cursed the serpent after Adam and Eve had sinned, He delivered a verdict and a forecast of what was to come.
Theres going to be a seed - Jesus - who will come from the line of Eve. The serpent (Satan) will harass the earth and strike the heel of Jesus. In the end, Jesus will crush Satans head.
Genesis 3:15 is arguably the most common stop-by verse for Bible theologians used to explain the Bibles systematic theology.
From Genesis 3:15 forward, the rest of the Bible is all about working out this verse. (Jeff Anderson)
Man, it was eye opening.
There are one year and two year plans. I took it slow and enjoyed it very very much.
What was most surprising to me was how the book of Jeremiah was structured. The 52 chapters are NOT at all in chronological order. Very "quantum leap" like.
Anyway. I encourage anyone wanting to see how Scripture "happened" in real time to read it at least once in that format. Very enlightening.
Amen! The first time I read Kings and Chronicles over 30 years ago, I thought it was just a list of kings (mostly bad). But in the many times i have read it since, I have noticed how the writings of the prophets who served under those various kings dovetail beautifully with the narrative.
Good Analogy! :-)
Because Old Testament/New Testament is ALL from God - holy men of God spoke as they were carried along/moved by the Holy Spirit (II Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit doesn't change, truth doesn't change. Jesus upheld His authority and defended His deity from the Old Testament Scriptures. There is much we need to learn about the character of God, His purpose for creation, His relationship with it all and His redemption of mankind through faith in Jesus Christ. The gospel is carried throughout the Word. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
AMEN!
Forty-eight? More like 300+.
So true! The entire Bible is Spirit filled!
Christ Jesus himself said he fulfilled the law perfectly. What is the law? Its in the OT!
Anyone trying to get rid of the OT is of the devil. Period.
But when you count up all the additional ones that relate to Christ's person, birthplace, ministry, origin, ascension and future reign, there are over 300. The above link also goes into many of them as well as this one 353 Prophecies Fulfilled in Jesus Christ .
