Andrew White, the son of former Gov. Mark White, and a member and elder in a PCA church, is running for Texas governor as a democrat candidate.
White, 45, is an elder at Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Houston, a conservative congregation that is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). In recent days, he has taken heat from other Democrats for being personally against abortion, though he has said he recognizes that abortion remains legal and that he would not try to change that if elected governor. According to online policy papers, PCA opposes same-sex marriage and does not regard it to be in keeping with Gods intentions for marriage.
AUSTIN The church where he is an elder may be steadfastly opposed to gay marriage, and considers homosexuality a sin.
But Andrew White, a Houston entrepreneur running for governor as a Democrat, says it will not affect his decisions as governor in any way.
Its a church-state issue and there is a separation in my mind, White said. My personal faith is personal to me, but I will not let it interfere with how I govern.
Whites church-and-state position surfaced anew after he Tweeted on Thursday: Im for marriage equality and everyone deserves to be treated equally under the law.
For years, Republican leaders in Austin have been often criticized for letting their church-going religious beliefs bleed over into their official state policy on various issues.
The facts: White, 45, is an elder at Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Houston, a conservative congregation that is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).

Son of former Gov. Mark White. A real résumé enhancer.
Ping.
Ping.
As a longtime PCA member and having an Elder in the family....
....this is not going to fly.
Not consistent being an elder in PCA and running as a Democrat with their platform. He’s mixed up. Sounds like the Democrat left won’t let him infect them with the chance of conservative views.
Since he is a Democrat from Houston and the son of a past Dem. Governor, he is just another two-bit Progressive attempting to appear moderate. If Texas Monthly (a mouthpiece for the powerful Hobby family) prints a puff piece on him, then he is likely the Dem pick for Governor.
A PCA Elder has no business running as a Democrat.... He can be one, or the other, not both.
I attended a PCA church for several years. Full of liberals.
Thats a relief, Im sure. This guy is going make a run up the ignorant middle as a candidate and then abandon the middle, for the Left.
What decent man would want to drag a D around after his name? Yikes!
Another slick operator.
A person's faith, worldview, permeates every thought and action of that person. If he wouldn't govern according to his beliefs, he really doesn't have those beliefs.
I would not vote for him either for governor, nor for an ruling elder of my church.
I am a member of a PCA congregation, as well.
Gay? What?
If you don’t mind my asking are you still attending a PCA church? If not, are you attending another church and if so what denomination(or non-denomination) is it? The reason I ask is I’m curious where folks who leave the initially strongly conservative PCA over its liberal faction go from there.
Well said. I’m not sure how he became a ruling elder in the PCA with that thought process.
Southern Democrats actually used to be MORE conservative than current-day Republicans.
That was until the New Left emerged.
Agreed.
New Left = Communism
No. I left when the pastor started preaching salvation by birth, with no need for repentance. I moved to a independent church where the doctrine was closest to Baptist theology.
