Seeking Reverent SoCal Church
April 1 | self

Posted on 04/01/2018 2:39:09 AM PDT by EliRoom8

I am relocating in a few months and would like to live in Southern California. It could be almost anywhere -- Santa Barbara to Temecula. The one **attraction** I am after is to find an evangelical (and Bible teaching) church with a choir, no entertainment, no band nor drum set on stage. Maybe, even a place where the pastor-teacher wears a tie and slacks, not jeans and a t-shirt.

Seriously --- Am I hoping for too much?

If the church is truly interpreting the bible any other aspect to attract new followers shouldn’t matter should it?

I thought that Baptists had gone contemporary/modern and retired their choirs.

You do not interpret the Bible only with your mouth, but also with your actions and your demeanor.

And when He is among you as He promised, you may be as "seeker sensitive" as you like, but if your words and actions are less than worshipful, most normal people will perceive right away that you don't really believe He is present in your sanctuary.

The Lord is quite demanding on the appearance of his congregational leaders in the OT. He talks about dignity and the Lord’s glory in matters related to apparel in Exodus 28-30.. He also deals with presumption and an overly familiar approach to worship in the example of Nadab and Abihu.

Try Calvary Baptist Church, Santa Barbara:

Been there many times back when I was in SC on business; one of my fellow graduate school pals raised his family in it when he worked for Hughes.

Check it out.

This might be an indicator for your preference:

"Among the Westmont professors who attended Calvary Baptist Church were Dr. Charles Ryrie, . . . "

From their History section.

Not these Independent Baptist.

They can’t make it on this list if they use contemporary/modern music.

Look for a Presbyterian Church in America, Orthodox Presbyterian Church, or an Associate Reform Presbyterian Church.

I’m not promising that every one of these have a high(er) church form of worship, but it is a good starting point.
