I dunno about shock treatments. I knew a pretty damaged individual in my hometown who got ECT --- this was 40+ years ago in a state mental institution--- for his various behavioral problems. It's possible the ECT may even have saved his life for mitigating his severe depression (I don't know) but in terms of homosexuality, he ended up with his promiscuously sodomite behavior unchanged.

I think he needed intensive spiritual counseling. He was a poor suffering wretch. I was at the time a staffer at a church-based homeless shelter, and I and the other staff truly worked hard to get him involved in volunteer work to keep him out of trouble.

No queerness is historically a mental illness. It was successfully treated with brain shock for 70’years!! It is quite reversable like any mental illness.
