‘This Is Not of God’: When Anti-Trump Evangelicals Confront Their Brethren
The New york times ^ | May 23 2018 | Laurie Goodstein

Posted on 05/29/2018 4:03:32 AM PDT by Cronos

The night before Shane Claiborne came to town to preach at a Christian revival, he received a letter from the chief of police at Liberty University warning that if he set foot on the property, he would be arrested for trespassing and face up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

...to the leaders of Liberty, he was a menace to their campus. He and his national network of liberal evangelicals, called the Red Letter Christians, were holding a revival meeting to protest in Liberty’s backyard. Their target: Jerry Falwell Jr., Liberty’s president and a man who has played a pivotal role in forging the alliance between white evangelicals and Donald J. Trump, who won 81 percent of their vote.

Mr. Claiborne and his group are the other evangelicals. The Red Letter Christians, a reference to the words of Jesus printed in some Bibles in red type, are not the evangelicals invited for interviews on Fox News or MSNBC. They don’t align neatly with either political party. But they have fierce moral and theological objections to those evangelicals who have latched onto Mr. Trump and the Republican Party.

He’s not holding a revival.

It’s political rally disguised as Christianity.

Revivals have to do with confronting people with their sin and urging them to turn to Christ.

It’s not making political statements and making men like Falwell and Trump their targets.

The guy is a fraud.

If they have to boast of following Jesus more than others by over dramatically proclaiming themselves “Red Letter” I immediately distrust them.

Absolutely.

I know a few people who are Christians that are on the anti-Trump train.

I understood it during the election. They were not for Hillary either.

But they are anti-Trump now, and I think they are turning into hypocrites now.

They are now questioning the Christianity of those who voted for Trump.

I was anti-Hillary during the election, but I’m pro-Trump now because he is following through on his promises.

I’ve pointed out the good things he’s done. Lim not a fan of some of his Twitter, but he’s doing great things:Isis being defeated, Gorsuch on the Supreme Court, and now North Korea.

I think my church is turning liberal too. If course, I’m in California. The women’s Bible study is more conservative than the regular younger pastors. I stick with that.

This bears repeating:

"The anti-Trump people of any category at this point are enemies of human civilization".

The fact that they were only formed after Trump’s election and not during Obama’s term or to fight against gay marriage or abortion tells me all I need to know.
,br> Yup. Yet another iteration of Astroturf, like "the Coffee Party", "Catholics for a Free Choice" and "No Labels".

These are the so called believers given over to the anti-Christ Spirit, where the TV, Social Media, Movies, MSM (the images that both move and speak all tell them whats true)

President Trump represents a push back against that growing evil in this nation (and across the world) No matter who or what he is, its only a temporary setback for them, no one will be allowed to challenge it in the future, that is what all of this is really about,

The ‘ant-trump Evangelicals’ are not aware of this spirit at work, they cannot see it on their doorstep, at best they’re deceived and need to wake up and at worst they embrace it like this current Pope,

Leftism is predicated on irrationality, falsehood, immorality, and hatred.

It is not of God. It is of the enemy of God.

‘evengelical’ non-Christian social justice frauds ... look for the spirit of Wallis / antiChrist in this stew.

They were formed at least as early as 2006 and they are not moderate but full blown progressive socialists.

Do not tell them. They think that conservative Christians are let’s just say too judgemental.

Reds. Their gods are Marx and Baal. These are not Christians.

Nothing moderate about them- they are spawn of Sojourners and Sojourners is partially funded by...

... Using Open Society as a conduit, Soros has given more than $7 billion to a who’s who of left-wing groups. This partial list of recipients of Soros’ money says it all: ACORN, Apollo Alliance, National Council of La Raza, Tides Foundation, Huffington Post, Southern Poverty Law Center, Soujourners, People for the American Way, Planned Parenthood, and the National Organization for Women.

I do not attempt to communicate with leftists. They are committed to evil and only listen to polish their rhetorical skills. Why help them?

I do talk with normal, decent people, especially those who are unsure of politics. We have a duty to help them find the light. Our grandparents and parents passed on a free country to us, and we have an obligation to do the same for our children and grandchildren.

It's a democrat front group... same as the ‘vote vet’ or whatever that anti-Trump group calls itself.

Democrats have dumped the Black Lives Matter and Antifa and other violent groups in favor of fake ‘patriotic’ groups. This is AstroTurf probably financed by George Soros.

Best thing to do is check CraigsList etc to see where democrat thugs are advertising for 'religious types' ....

LOL - I called it without even knowing it was a Soros funded horror. Democrats have dumped 'Black Lives Matter' and Antifa in favor of FAKE PATRIOTIC GROUPS. I'll bet Soros is behind the 'vote vet' groups too. It's a 'vets against trump'... probably pulled from ads in Craig'sList. Too bad the little sh*ts at the New York Times and Washington Post are so corrupt they won't cover how these fake groups are created out of thin air... it would be an interesting story...

Some millennials in my congregation are left wing, but sincere and deep believers. I think they are simply wrong though, as Leftism is a religion, but they do good work for the LORD.
