A sculpture of the Virgin Mary that appeared to be crying at a church in New Mexico is being investigated after it was determined her tears were olive oil.
The statue, which is located at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hobbs, underwent a chemical analysis that was determined to be a scented olive oil.
Some of the witnesses claimed it smelled of roses, said Bishop Oscar Cantu of the diocese. So something similar to the oil I bless and consecrate each year that we use for baptism, for confirmations and for ordination of the priests.
An investigation is underway to figure out whether there was a natural cause behind the liquid found on the hollow bronze sculpture, Cantu said.
The diocese also examined the interior of the statue and determined nothing there was irregular. "Theres nothing on the interior thats not supposed to be there, except for cobwebs, he told the news outlet. So we took pictures; we examined it.
Cantu said he has to look into whether the tears were a hoax, but, he said, even if it were (a hoax), we are not sure how it would be done, physically. Because it is hardened bronze. Weve examined the interior, and theres nothing on the interior.
If the church does conclude the tears are supernatural, Cantu said it will have to decide if theyre from God or an evil spirit. The diocese said some people who have engaged with the sculpture have reported beautiful, positive fruits since their encounter.

Imagine that. A miracle that weeps a common substance found on any grocery store shelf.
There’s a weeping Virgin Mary statue not far from us that I’ve visited twice. It’s run by Russian Orthodox priests and it’s housed in a rickety trailer house. Funny, each time I was told the statue wept the day before. It never weeps when there’s verifiable witnesses. Well, this one weeps myrrh.
This is an easy ploy to dupe the ignorant villagers. I wonder what they make them do to keep the miracles coming?
If it were olive from one duct and balsamic vinegar from the other, then hey, we got a party.
Why would anyone in heaven be weeping?
Excuse me but how does a parish priest anywhere find a boy to join in the shower?
I see what you did there.
Genco Olive Oil?
Here’s the political motivation for the hoax. Bishop Cantu’s statement further in the article:
Ive read most of those written testimonies, and they are stories of tremendous faith, people who have been dealing with terrible suffering in their lives and have felt a tremendous spiritual consolation that Mary walks with us in our tears, Cantu told the Sun News. I cant help but think of my own shedding of tears for the poor people who come to our border, fleeing life-threatening situations. The tears of those children who are separated from their parents. There are many reasons we would shed tears, and God stands with us in those moments.
Satan can pull off stunts to deceive the gullible. Ask Moses. The evil one was able to imitate many of the miracles God did by the hand of Moses. People need to understand this and not be fooled by the antics of the evil one. The Spirit of God points to and glorifies The Living LORD, not His creatures.
He will do miracles through a saint to point out and confirm that saint’s correct preaching of The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Out of compassion for His children He will heal and/or deliver them, but only in Jesus’s Name.
The victim was an adult male known to the priest who asked to use the shower as there was a problem with the water/shower in his own apartment.

My sister-in-law’s first husband used to only crap at work... So he wouldn’t have to spend too much money on toilet paper.
