Sting: ‘The Church’s Music and Liturgy Fed This Artistic Soul’
National Catholic Register ^ | August 8, 2018 | Edward Pentin

Posted on 08/08/2018 10:50:29 AM PDT by ebb tide

The former lead singer of ‘The Police’ tells the Register he is grateful for his Catholicism, shares his love for Latin and sacred music, and says he hasn’t ruled out one day coming back to the Sacraments.

Despite reaching the lofty heights of fame and success in the entertainment industry, the English singer, songwriter and actor Sting has never forgotten his Catholic roots and says he remains “grateful” for his Catholicism which is “linked” to his music.

Speaking to the Register in Rome July 28, the former lead singer of the rock band ‘The Police’ reveals his particular love for sacred music, saying “there’s something in the cadences and in the rhythm of the music in Latin that is very special,” and that the Church’s “music and the liturgy fed this artistic soul.”

Here's Sting's killer statement which may explain he does not intend to come back to the Sacraments until his death (as if he knows when that will occur):

And then I love what Pope Francis said about God: he said “God is mercy,” and I thought that was a profound and simple statement that people had kind of forgotten over the years. So with the Last Judgement, if God is mercy, then there’s no judgment at all, just forgiveness. I don’t know if that’s heresy or not, but it works for me.

Sigh. He’s no theologian.

There’s not much point to anything if anything goes. Why not be a Nazi? They just get automatic forgiveness just like Mother Theresa, right? No difference between ‘em if everything is just mercy, mercy, mercy.

Simple. It's heresy ...

Neither is Bergoglio.

It's an interesting interview --- from a musical point of view, it really is --- but I can't quell the disgust I feel, because Sting actually came out in favor of the mass murder of Irish children.

That train will take you to hell.

No mercy for that.

No mercy for that, unless he repents good and hard.

If the music, and the artwork, and the beauty does not point the soul to Christ, then it is wasted. To concentrate on the beautiful creature, and not the Creator of Beauty is to commit idolatry.

Well, considering Our Lord said: "The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity. And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So the idea that there is no judgment is heresy. Sorry, Stinger.

If you add a “y” to his name he’s Stingy.

The Police

Perhaps the most overrated band ever along side Cheap Trick.

I would put Journey on that list.

"And Sting writes better songs."

Yeah, but he doesn't have a song built right into his name (more or less), like Bergoglio does...

"Barney Google (With The Goo-Goo-Googly Eyes)"

(Unless you count the line in the middle of this song...)

       "I'm A King Bee"

I saw both the Police and Cheap Trick back in the 80s. No comparison! The Police were excellent. I loved when they would just sing acapello. They could harmonize and had great voices. They also were great at improvising. One of my all time favorite concert back in the day when I didn’t know performers politics.

Amen to what you said.

If a church’s merit is to be judged upon the glory of its architecture, the beauty of its vestments, the lavish fervor of its liturgy, the unrestrained passion and piety of the congregation, and the magnificence of its music, my vote would be for the Russian Orthodox Church.

But all that is not why I believe the gospel. And so, while a magnificent Church Liturgy is perhaps the high point of cultural expression, if it does not bring souls to Christ, than it’s merely art. (or artifice)

Art is nice, but it is not God.
