Active Homosexuality in the Priesthood Helped Cause This Crisis
National Catholic Register ^ | Aug. 18, 2018 | Msgr. Charles Pope

Posted on 08/18/2018 2:34:47 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

The Sixth Commandment is clear — there is a universal call to chastity, and no one is exempt.

There is a line in the Acts of the Apostles that I once found humorous: So the word of God continued to spread, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem continued to grow rapidly. Even a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. (Acts 6:7) Of course the priests referred to here are the priests of the ancient Temple, the Levitical priests. In the past, such a line seemed ironically funny to the average Catholic who heard it.

But that humor, in recent days, seems more darkly true and less ironic. Indeed, in the past two decades — and now, once again — the reputation of the priesthood and episcopacy has been sullied by the deeply sinful, unchaste, unnatural and unconscionable acts of some priests and bishops. They have harmed many victims and disgraced the priesthood. They have engaged in great evils, often repeatedly and with no accountability. But they will answer to God for what they have done.

[big snip]

The Church should be self-correcting, but we have not been so. ..it has taken a secular state and threats of severe legal action to compel us to be more inwardly accountable. It is reminiscent of Pharaoh having to rebuke Abram for his crime of putting his own wife Sarai in the harem to protect himself (see Genesis 12:10-20). It is like the pagan sailors who had to tell Jonah the prophet to pray to God (Jonah 1:6). It is like Jesus finding more faith among the Gentiles than his own people. And now, too often, it takes grand juries, judges, financial and legal threats to get us to do what we should have done all along.

Nature abhors a vacuum, and gay men have always been particularly good at establishing themselves as the power group, each one protecting all the others, once they are given the opportunity to do so.

I hate to say this, but it's true. You see it in other large institutions as well. "They protect each other, they hire each other." They do.

The headline is wrong. ANY homosexuality in the priesthood IS the crisis.

It led to other horrible results: abuse of children; abuse of seminarians; consensual sodomy between adults; clericalism (needed to support the conspiracy of secrecy to hide the uncounted crimes of clerics); heterosexual unchastity in the priesthood; lax moral teaching by much (most?) of the clergy; etc.

But the admission of ANY sodomite - active or inactive - to the priesthood is a crime against God, the Church, the laity, and nature. The crime is committed by the sodomite, and by the bishop.

The Pope is the problem.

The Pope is _a_ problem, but the sexual abuse problem long predates him.

The pope has to drain the swamp which he isn’t doing. He therefore is the problem

“...didn’t HELP cause it. It IS what caused it.

Exactly. Precisely.

“homosexual and not pedophile”

One can be both.

Yes they can be both but the vast majority of abusing priests are not abusing pre-pubescent children, therefore we are not dealing with pedophiles in the Catholic Church but homosexuals.

The media has spun the pedo-priest idea for so long and the distinction is never explained.

“The Pope is _a_ problem, but the sexual abuse problem long predates him.”

He’s been in the Church hierarchy his entire adult life and to my knowledge has never uttered a single word of condemnation.

He IS the problem.

. . . the acceptance of this type of behavior by those in charge promoted that as well."
Exactly. For centuries men with homosexual tendencies -- or simply not called to marriage -- saw the priesthood as a way to serve God and the Church honorably, and that's exactly what they did. Then several decades ago the seminaries began to be increasingly overtly homosexual. Once they reached a tipping point the outcome was easy to predict. There are still many, many homosexuals in the priesthood and in the hierarchy, and where you have male homosexuals you have pederasty. The Church is keen to cover up this fact, just as the "gay" community is.

Perhaps we should start keeping a tally of how many caucus threads are broken by Roman Catholics mentioning other denominations.

I can think of three right off the top of my head by one RC poster alone.

It is hard to speculate on who it may have been. The truth is it was a bonafide communist plot.

What better way to tear down the Church than for her to have men in it doing the unthinkable.

The truth is that the gay problem is not inherent to the Catholic Church, but it is inherent with the satan.

With priests raping multitudes of little boys I really wonder if they didn’t span the homosexual crisis in this country and the world. They had access to so many children. Maybe it was multiplication from one generation of priests to the next.

This Msgr reasons and writes so very clearly. This is the most comprehensible and properly accountable essay that I have read on this issue from RC sources. What a blessing.
