I heard someone describe it as when you pray, you speak to God. When you read the Bible, God speaks to you.

Obviously, if you are insincere doing either, it is wasted time.

I agree. I think it makes perfect sense: reading the Bible *can* be “spending time with God,” but it isn’t necessarily “spending time with God.”

First off, I have never cared for Beth Moore. Phone as a 3 dollar bill from the get go. Almost a “name it and claim it” gal, she is in this ministry for the cash. I don’t care what this adoration piece says.

Apparently, obviously, a piece meant to guilt the white Christian women who voted for PDJT into never voting for him again; like in 2020.

This little b!tch says she voted 3rd party in 2016 because DJT was SOOO repugnant. Well, little rich lady, which 3rd party? Stein? Johnson? Or the Mormon McMullen? Because as bad as all of them are you may as well admit you voted for Cankles McPantsuit.

But anyway, coming from the Atlantic .. does Blonde Phony know the Atlantic is a rag for hit pieces on Republicans? Or was she merely happy to contribute?

PS - In our church searches, ANY church that used this no-talent phony’s books as teaching material was crossed of the list and burned.

OH, PS - nice wig. Ain’t you good enough to present yourself as God made you? :/ .......... or is trying to fool women of your age that you look so much better than they do part of your schtick?

She is correct - many liberal bible scholars study Scripture and deny God at the same time.

The danger for believers is falling in love with the love letter and not the Lover who sent it.

I’ve seen sterile and legalistic “bible churches” that “taught scripture” but displayed no love of Him.

Beth Moore attracts her own ‘following’

Completely agree with you. I am not a fan of Beth Moore...at all. I do think she was right in this particular case though. Really could care less what she thinks though to be honest.

So-called “Bible experts” are like Honey Buckets. You can find one pretty much everywhere, and they’re always full of crap.

I see the problem with Beth Moore. She needs to read the Bible. I would suggest 1 Timothy chapter 2:
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.

1 Timothy 2:12

Heretic.

I see this as splitting hairs / semantics

Yah me too..much ado about nothing. Satan knows scripture better than I do but there's nothing Godly about him.

On the other hand someone who NEVER routinely studies scripture is going to be easily fooled by deceiving spirits pretending to be holy. The bible is the objective standard by which we can tell whether or not something is bad or good, holy or evil.

The idea is a simple one. Whatever study you do, whatever else you do in your busy day, you need to spend some quiet time alone with God, in prayer, and in meditation which is the other half of your prayer. For some people this is already a regular part of their daily devotion; this is just a reminder to the rest of us to make time with God a priority, and to let your prayer time be more than a laundry list. Its not a criticism of people who don’t, its an invitation.

When I was a teen, my pastor occasionally referred to some bible classes getting down to “Paul’s shoe size”. Meaning that while the class was “teaching” the material that was being covered was of little practical use for changing lives.

I remember one class was focused on the specifics of which cities did Paul visit in what order.

Exactly right. I just had a discussion about this as well. Sometimes we can know ALL that information but if we don't make it somehow relevant to our Christian growth it's useless facts.

I teach Sunday school and a home Bible study and study my Bible daily and I hear this same argument all the time. What people don't see is me weeping as the Holy Spirit is ministering to me on particular passages. They don't hear the Spirit teaching me on a question I may have had yesterday or even 20 years ago. They don't see me sleeping at night and the Holy Spirit visiting me to edify my life and my families lives.

Many believe that if you spend all of your time in the Word, you can't possibly deliver the Gospels to the unwashed. The trouble with that is most of them don't wash anyone in the Word because they don't know the Word. Ministering is more than handing the homeless $20. Many of these same people feel going to church is not important to living out their Bible.

I agree that if you don't put into practice what you read in Scripture it's useless to read the Scripture. Reading the Scripture is supposed to change your hearts. But what I find is almost universal ignorance of what the Bible says and means. Many times it comes from the pulpits with teaching complete error. You can't judge someones walk with God by measuring how much Scripture they consume in a week, but I can tell you it does indicate the level of love they have for for their Creator. You won't read Scripture faithfully for any amount of time if you aren't drawn to Him. Of course when you read the Bible straight through when you were 19 and you're 54 now and you think you have it all down pat, you also don't understand that God has more to say than what you got at 19. Joy Behar said on the View that she was nervous about someone who talked to God but thought someone that heard from God was crazy. Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice". God speaks to me from the Bible, but He also speaks to me in my spiritual ears. One of the biggest frustrations of Jesus was people that had ears but didn't hear, and eyes that don't see. If God doesn't speak in an audible voice that you can hear, then you are NOT His.

Jesus is the Word, according to John 1. That would be the "Rhema" Word spoken directly from God. The "Logos" Word is the written Word of Scripture. Reading the Bible is communing with God. I would hope you could develop a deeper relationship with Him than that. The verses in Scripture that refer to Jesus telling us "I never knew you", is actually speaking of church members that never get into His presence. They would protest that they cast out demons in His name( only Christians have the name that will cast out a demon)They said they ate with Him( they took Communion) and they sat under preachers that preached His Word. But they never were with Him in a personal relationship. The Bible is not just a book of rules, but a love letter from our Creator that desires to live with His people. He came to us in the Garden of Eden, and He came to us in the Wilderness Tabernacle, and lastly to walk and talk with us again as Jesus. He now lives in our Tabernacle if you are Born Again. If you haven't been Born again, you don't hear His voice and He doesn't know you no matter how much you read your Bible.

It not up to this woman or anyone else to judge your relationship with God. You should evaluate that every time you take Communion. Many people that say they read the Bible and go to church,....don't. Reading a couple of verses every few months and going to church 2 times a year is no relationship with your future spouse. But condemning people for studying their Bible is also in the crazy column.

Spending time with God and spending time with the Bible are not the same thing. The Bible is the Word of God, crucial to knowing Him, but it’s not God. We can study our Bibles till the 2nd coming & leave God completely out of it. We can grow in facts & never grow a whit in faith.— Beth Moore (@BethMooreLPM) January 2, 2019

Beth Moore is doing us a service by showing that she does not understand God's Word, faith, justification, or sanctification. "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Rom 10:17). We come to know Christ (justification) by hearing/reading God's Word, believing, and then confessing (Rom 10:9-10). We are sanctified by Christ as the Word of God, with the help of the Holy Spirit, reveals and changes those areas of our life need washing/fertilizing/pruning. Here is a good link for the deceptions of Beth Moore...

Everything you say is true, and yet it doesn’t change the central point. However busy your day, find time for prayer and meditation. Find time to be alone with God. Its not complicated, though actually finding the time can be.

Probably you already do, and if so, that’s the point of the discussion. Encourage others to do the same.

I simply have never read God’s Word without “prayer and meditation”.

Jesus said pretty much the same thing to the Pharisees:

John 5:39. “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.”
