Everybody getting in on the payoff before the Church runs out of money.

#1 The RCC will never run out of money.
#2 The behavior of this law firm makes no sense from a legal aspect. If anything it weakens any legal case they have. I still wonder if the state is not involved for the express purpose of revoking tax status. That's the only thing that makes sense.

The coverup is what makes these crimes all the worse.

I’ve been learning in just my little 500-person town that I just moved to that there was a molestation scandal in the 70s and the guilty party was protected by the RCC and escaped justice.

It might well explain why some of the older people really, REALLY got upset when I used to do the chanting parts of the church liturgy because they considered it ‘too Catholic.’

It really is horrifying to contemplate.

Got to start somewhere.

***

Yep. Just gotta figure out the best way to do it, and what the laity can do too.

And the fact that some may be dead does not make the allegations not credible or substantiated.

Never said otherwise. However, if the perp is dead, that means that (a) nobody can defend against the allegation; and (b) there is no guilty perpetrator to punish.

And likely they served only briefly cause word of what they were doing got out and they were protected by being moved around, which is the real atrocity in the whole issue.

That's not the case in every situation. Read the article. A priest who spent a few weeks as a vacation substitute in a parish in Illinois, then returned to his usual domicile in Iowa, where he later molested, is counted as an Illinois abuser. That seems to me to muddy the waters.

Nobody is claiming "it wasn't so bad". But being imprecise and deliberately inflammatory and exaggerated, like this report, doesn't really help.

Chanting is certainly a gateway drug to child molestation. [rolls eyes]

They could be sued for putting out false claims.

Spotlight wasn’t even that bad. There are other factual documentaries out there are worse.

How would you know? The CC refuses to cooperate and release secret files.

How would you know? The CC refuses to cooperate and release secret files.

Which would lead one to believe the problem is FAR worse than they would like to admit or has been exposed.

If it weren't, they'd release the files and prove that it's just a small problem, limited in scope to a handful of priests.

That would reassure everyone about the integrity of the remaining priesthood.

But they don't.

Imagine that.......

They don't have an organization which can protect them the way the RCC does.

You're living in a fantasy world. Have you ever heard of the teachers' union?

But read for yourself. This is only one article. The only difference is the media fixation on Catholics. Every other group gets a big ho-hum, even when the abuse is more pervasive, ongoing, and obviously covered up.

How a culture of covering up sex abuse at public schools is hurting children — and costing taxpayers millions

I didn't say it was bad but it was eye opening to me. I am pretty naive on these things I guess.

yeah, I've heard of it. Do they move teachers around to protect predators? School admins hire not the union. Does the union tell the students to not tell like the Church officials? If they do then they should be held responsible as well. Nobody should get a free pass on child molestation.

There needs to be a Vatican III Conference and allow the priests to get married.
