Here's what one of the final submissions will look like:

Yup.
And there will be two of them. Or four.
There will be at least one very prominent crescent.

Design the spire? Why not use the design of the spire that was there?
I get the feeling that the rebuilt Notre Dame is going resemble the job that was done to Soldier Field.

Why would it be hard to rebuild it just like it was? Oh yeah, because the French are submissive weasels, and want to appease their muslim pals. Theyll most likely put up four minarets and a crescent, or some hideous modern style spire.

The Catholic Church needs to step up to the plate pay & oversee the rebuilding of Notre Dame or some god-awful modern architectural, anti-Christian, anti-European (as well as anti-France) monstrosity will take its place. Norte Dame needs to be reconstructed as near as possible back to what it was. Nothing else is Norte Dame, every Frenchmen & Frenchwomen should know that! If France means anything to them this is what they will demand!

Why? What is wrong with the one that burned?
This whole operation will be a nine-line-free-fall-cluster-fluck. Wait for it.

There is an excellent documentary (may be hard to find) about the time a fire totally destroyed Dick Cavett’s historic beachfront house in Montauk, Long Island. After debating with his late wife how to rebuild the home, they decided to rebuild it exactly as it was to every last detail, including the French-made stained glass in the front door. They even had the floor boards sanded down to give them the same time-worn feel. That is what must be done at Notre Dame. That and some state of the art security and fire suppression apparatus.

Regardless of the design, I'd like to see it rebuilt according to modern standards. Steel beams instead of timbers, fireproof roof, etc. Let's make it an example of 21-st century technology.
