I am not Catholic but it seems to me one could make the case that Benedict is still the legitimate Pope and that Francis is a usurper put in place in a palace coup.

Old traditions: God is the higher power and God is love!

New Traditions: We are the higher power and you can love anything - from preteens to animals and we are more powerful than God and Global Warming is real...

Sorry, 💩 Francis, but you are a nutcase! I'm glad you aren't my spokesperson for God!!

"Pope Francis: Church Must Learn to Abandon Old ‘Traditions’"

Like that silly old Percy Sledge notion...

Uh oh! I thought tradition was equal with scripture in the Roman Church. Either they plan to throw out scripture as well or maybe they finally understand sola scriptura?

No. From a heretic who can't keep his yap shut.

Come on Ebb. Now you can finally join the sola scriptura group. We will forgive you for being 500 years late to the party. Scripture never changes. Traditions and pronouncements of men not so much.

Old Traditions, like following the Bible, not worshipping Satan or his moon rock in Mecca, not being a child-raping filthy chomo. You know, trivial things like that. Otherwise somebody might think Catholics are mean-old “Christians”, or something like that.

I am a Catholic and you are right. He is NOT the pope. Josef Ratzinger was and still is the one true pope. God help us.

That is why the church survives. God has a hand and purpose in all.

From today's Gospel Reading: John 15:15

I will not now call you servants: for the servant knoweth not what his lord doth. But I have called you friends: because all things whatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you.

Seems to contradict the assertion:

“Jesus intentionally omitted telling his disciples many things so that the Church would learn to renounce the desire for clarity and order”

Back in the good ole days, he would end up taking a dirt nap from poison or a blow to the head. Maybe a cardinal’s bastard son could take his place like in the 900’s -1200’s?

In other words, do it man’s way, not God’s way.

A lot of us are trying to unpretzel this thing into some kind of straight solution.

It's surreal. On he one hand, I could pretty much convince myself that Pope Benedict's abdication was canonically defective, the 2013 conclave that elected Pope Francis was invalidated by uncanonical "politicking," and that Francis has subsequently rendered his authority null via heresy.

Every one of those solutions is at least plausible, and any one of them would get us off the hook.

But the problem is, who will bell the cat? There's nobody above him who can frogmarch him into a tribunal. Canonically speaking, he is not vulnerable.

But he is vulnerable before the Lord God!

Fast and pray.

It's like I've said so many times on this forum: if you hit "Delete" on Tradition, Scripture disappears from the screen.

Let this be a lesson to us all, boys and girls: get rid of Tradition(big-"T" Apostolic Tradition) and what you end up with is Francis.
