[Catholic Caucus] Cdl. Cupich defends giving Holy Communion to pro-abortion politicians

BALTIMORE, June 14, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago defended giving Holy Communion to pro-abortion politicians, saying, “I think it would be counterproductive to impose sanctions, simply because they don’t change anybody’s minds.”

Cardinal Cupich expressed his position in the wake of Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois barring pro-abortion legislators from receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion. Citing canon 915 of the Code of Canon Law, Bishop Paprocki ruled last week that state legislators working to pass Illinois’s new abortion bill may not present themselves for communion in his diocese and that priests are expressly forbidden from giving the Eucharist to both the Senate president and the speaker of the House.

On June 12, Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker, a non-Christian, signed the Illinois Reproductive Health Act (Senate Bill 25) into law, which recognizes abortion as a “fundamental right” while mandating that insurance companies cover abortions. Catholics serving in the Illinois legislature voted in favor of the measure.

While Cupich is opposed to abortion, he told CNA, “I think it would be counterproductive to impose sanctions, simply because they don’t change anybody’s minds, but it also takes away from the fact that an elected official has to deal with the judgment seat of God, not just the judgment seat of a bishop. I think that’s much more powerful.”

He went on to say, “I have always approached the issue saying that the bishop’s primary responsibility is to teach, and I will continue to do that.”

Bishop Paprocki told LifeSiteNews in a recent interview that he barred the pro-abortion Catholic politicians from receiving Communion because he was concerned about the “salvation of souls.”

“As a shepherd of the Church, I’m concerned for the salvation of their souls,” Paprocki said of the lawmakers, “as well as the salvation of souls who are watching their actions and are scandalized by this.”

“And if we as bishops don’t say anything about it,” he continued, “that just adds to the scandal of people thinking that, “Well, these politicians are doing things that are very immoral and very sinful, and the bishops aren’t saying anything about that. So you know that would make it make it even worse. I just felt an obligation or responsibility to respond to what was going on.”

Both Cupich and Paprocki indicated that they had tried to communicate or had communicated with Senate President John Cullerton and the Speaker of the House Michael Madigan about their problematic positions. “I have conversations with them, and those continue to take place. They have to,” Cupich said, while Paprocki said he spoke to Madigan and wrote to him and Cullerton in advance of the decree.

Who needs to obey canon law while Francis is pope?

He’s right. Sanctions have never, ever, ever -in human history - changed anyone’s mind. /s

So the church is cool with marrying adulterers?

Seems it would also be counterproductive to die on a cross in ancient Palestine, because it didn’t change anybody’s mind. Much better to come down from the cross, and show them that you’re the Messiah. Then, people’s minds would surely be changed. /s

It's only cool with Pope Francis; it's not cool with the Catholic Church.

That is why you have the anullment process.

Bergoglio’s new annulment process is a joke; it’s nothing more than “catholic” divorce.

Pope reads Italian bishops the riot act over delayed annulment reform

Bergoglio can't have too many "annulments". And if one is too lazy to bother with one, he/she can go ahead and remarry civilly. He'll still allow you to sacrilegiously receive Holy Communion thus committing a mortal sin in addition to that of adultery.

It may be here, for now. But it doesn’t be the “annulments” are valid.

It is important to deny these politicians, precisely because they hope to use their affiliation with Catholicism to get elected.

The issue is *not* to persuade Moloch worshipers to stop sacrificing children, but to persuade Catholics that support these politicians, perhaps because they are ‘Catholics’, to *stop* supporting them. Don’t vote for them, and tell your friends not to vote for them either.

Canon 915:

Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.

The Apostolic Signatura already clarified --- years ago, in fact--- that "are not to be" means "MUST NOT BE" and that this is binding on the person distributing Holy Communion.

But these bishops and cardinals think they are above the law.

Turning an offender away from Communion is not just to be a "persuasive" gesture. It's to prevent Eucharistic Sacrilege, because

  1. sacrilege is offensive to Almighty God
  2. sacrilege brings guilt upon the minister of the Sacrament (it's a sin for the bishop, priest or deacon)
  3. the impenitent sinner himself is to be shielded from incurring multiple mortal sins, AND
  4. the Catholic faithful, and the community at large, are to be shielded from the sickening sight of seeing Our Lord openly profaned.

If Cupich had one iota of love for God, for the sinner, for his own priests or his own flock, he would firmly enforce 915. But he either has no love in him, or he just does not give a damn.

Remember, it was the homosexual, Mr. Teddy McCarrick, and his VP, Wilton Gregory, who suppressed Cardinal Ratzinger's firm instruction to refuse Holy Communion to baby-killers:

The Download—Lying Cardinals

McCarrick not only hid the memo, however — he lied about it.

And it is now known, that Mr. McCarrick easily solicited Pope Francis to elevate Cupcake Cupich to where he is today.

Cupich is the worse excuse for a bishop in the United States. He ignores the CCC at will to appease his democrat donors. If B16 were still pope there is no way in the world this charlatan would have ever became an archbishop. He was made an archbishop on the recommendation of his old friend, the notorious homosexual predator McCarrick.

McCarrick, Gregory, Nighty-night Tobin, Wuerl, Cupich are all as queer as a 3 dollar bill. Bergoglio knows it and could care less. So is the creep
Monsignor Rossi, who as Rector the whole world gets to see every time there’s a Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

So, let me get this straight...Cupich locked Latin Mass parishioners out of their church to force them into an English/new order mass, but he knowingly gives communion to pro-abortion politicians.

I think he gives a damn about remaking Christ's Church in the Cardinal's image, he knows EXACTLY what he's doing, is wanting in love, and is perhaps part of that smoke Pope Paul VI mentioned.

When the radicals in the 1960s, punks in the 1970s, new wavers in the 1980s, and grungers in the 1990s came along, you could spot them from a mile away. The radicals in the 21st century look like the establishment...because they ARE the establishment.
