So Many Jews are Returning to Israel That the Gov't is Worried They Won't be Able to Absorb Them

Unlike immigration to other countries, olim to Israel are welcomed as long-lost brothers, educated and housed at great public expense. A combination of coronavirus and anti-Semitism is creating conditions expected to bring millions of Jews home. But the Israeli government, already stretched to the limit, is concerned they may not be able to fulfill the prophecy in the proper manner.

The Knesset’s Immigration, Absorption, and Diaspora Affairs Committee met last Wednesday to discuss a major dilemma: Jewish immigration is expected to double nest year but budgetary constraints will make it difficult, if not impossible to absorb them into Israeli society.

Earlier this month, Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog reported to the committee that an estimated 250,000 people, mostly young people, will immigrate to Israel within the next three to five years. Herzog added that the number of people who have contacted the Jewish Agency about Aliyah from English-speaking countries has increased by 50%, and by 70% from French-speaking countries.

Israel could receive as many as 90,000 new immigrants in 2021 – nearly three times the number of immigrants in 2019.

I seriously doubt it.
With the annexation they’ll have even more sand to play with.

Israel is indeed tiny, an island of green and prosperity and innovation, surrounded by a desert of hostility, poverty and corruption.

Right but for 2019, that’s 16,000 people from the former Soviet Union.

The next few years will see Jews from North and South America and from France in much larger numbers than that returning home.

At least some of the former Soviet bloc nations — Poland and Hungary in the forefront — are hanging tough about importing Moslem criminals.

I doubt that affects Europe’s Jews very much. But it does hold out hope that in the future, Europe’s center of gravity will shift eastward.

Israel absorbed a million Russians in the very early 1990s. It was very, very difficult (I visited there in the summer of ‘90, arriving on the day that Iraq invaded Kuwait, and there were tent cities in all of the public parks. It took a while, and a lot of hardship, but they integrated this huge group (roughly 20% of its population). God will provide a way, and Israel will find it.

“And perhaps we can encourage all the commie-leftist types, whether named Schumer or Pelousy or Maxine Waters or “de Blasio” to emigrate to some very remote island off the coast of Antarctica?”

And then nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.

I’m one of those Jews who is sickened by Leftism and Communism - which murdered one of my great grandfathers and effectively imprisoned most of his descendants for 3 generations. I have nothing but utter disgust and a white-hot hatred for ANY collectivist ideology: first because of their effects - they are utter failures that are the single most effective way to increase misery ever invented by humanity, and second because they are utterly antithetical to the cardinal Jewish value of personal responsibility for the personal choices that we, as individuals, have to make because of the free will with which God blessed us.

You would think that the right wingers and Orthodox will eventually outbreed the Israeli left.

Demographics is not on their side in Israel.

Israel is indeed tiny, an island of green and prosperity and innovation, surrounded by a desert of hostility, poverty and corruption.

According to Google Israel is 74% Jews, 21% Arabs and 5% "other."

The Israeli Jews do depend on the Israeli Muslims to do work they won't do...clean toilets, for example. The Jews WILL do road work. I saw that myself. They were talking among themselves saying that in Russia they had been physicists, symphonic musicians and so on.

Also there aren't enough Jews to do all the work in the country so the Arab are numbers are needed.
They all have to get along...and they do. People that work together end up learning about each other, their families, birthdays and such. It's inevitable.
And that seems to be NOT such a bad thing.

In the end Jews, Christians and Muslims are all "people of the Book," the Bible.

As for corruption, it's there. You only have to look at ANY country SOUTH of our border to see massive endemic corruption. Same with most of Asia and Africa.

Nothing new here.

What I heard was (and who knows if it's true) that most of the American Jews who immigrated to Israel also have a home in the USA, sometimes in New York and/or Florida.

If they are mostly young, can’t they live in kibbutzim like the original resettlers did, and work their way along?

I have nothing but respect for Israel and Israelis.
Have always enjoyed my time there.
I also enjoy the Arabs and Arab countries of the Middle East.
But they are certainly different.

Water and infrastructure is a major issue in the Negev.
.............
I’ve heard Israel is desalinating seawater for $500@acre foot, sending the fresh water to their cities and then cleaning the water to brown water standards and sending the water to their farms and fields.

I’ve also seen some innovative research that suggests they can bring costs down to $300@acre foot. At those costs, they can put a bunch of desalination plants in eilat and water the southern negev. Even $500@acre foot isn’t too shabby for greenhouse farming. The big greenhouse area in the desert of southern spain does greenhouse farming fed by desalination plants that cost $1000@acre foot. They have so many greenhouses they can be seen from space. There are greenhouses in the eilat but only a few. They get their water from the brackish aquifer. often they just grow stuff that tolerates the brackish water —rather than desalinate it. I saw one Israeli on tv say his tomatoes grown from brackish water taste much better than fresh water tomatoes.

no it is not... even a greater issue, the ones having all the kids, The Haredi, are not Zionists and do not serve in the IDF. We have an issue on our hands.

Do you also believe that it is IMPOSSIBLE to explain what the Middle East is like to Americans? I found that so.
Both genders always "belong" to their birth families and therefore BOTH sides have to be civil to each other. The women of the families still decide on who marries whom.

I can't say that I "enjoyed" the Arab countries or Arabs but I realized a L-O-N-G time ago that they are just ordinary people who try to live their lives as best they can.
They are believers in God. They LOVE their children and divorce is all but non-existent.

I was just reading about the ATROCITIES that unwanted (defective, disabled) children go through in China...godless country. It's horrible.

The Arab countries are SO, VERY, VERY different from our Western society but they are FAR, FAR, FAR better societies than China.
