It comes down to how one feels about the Bible. Is the Bible the inerrant word of God or not. To those that believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God, the Bible is the yardstick against which a true religion must be measured. Gods word is supreme.

In doctrine, my husband and I have always considered ourselves “Bapticostals,” but we are not dedicated to a denomination, but rather to the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

I’m a non denominational Jew.

Isn't that what the Disciples were too?

All true Christians should be non-denominational at heart. When you become a Christian, the church you join isn’t a denomination. The church you join isp the Body Of Christ.

When you discover that the denomination you generally identify with is falling away from the Scriptures, be prepared to connect with a different one.

That’s good enough for me.

It takes time for that to bear fruit and I do see it doing so.

Hoping for more the next four years.

It comes down to how one feels about the Bible.
______________________________________________________

The Bible is the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly. There are several, I should say many English translations that disagree with each other. Knowing the customs, laws and other practices of the day these words were written is as important as the correctly translated word. If Peter were here with us I would likely listen to his interpretation to The Word.

There is a great problem with choosing the “Word” as what is in control because there are so many people who say that but have different theology than others who just as seriously read and follow the “Word” that the Word is simply not enough. If we had an inspired leader who could say “Thus saith The Lord” it would be grand. Unfortunately most of the Christian preachers I have met said they felt inspired.

God did leave one person to be at the head of the church as His representative on earth, Peter.
Nonsense. Only by contortions and twisting of Scripture does one believe that. Read 2 Cor. 11:5. about what Paul would say to YOU. Also James was the leader of the Jerusalem Church. Did not Jesus rebuke Peter and say “Get thee behind Me, Satan.
__________________________________________________________

Jesus told (Satan) Peter to get behind him only when Peter was willing to go to battle with the Roman soldiers and Jewish leaders to save Jesus.

Jesus told Peter:
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Then after Easter Christ told all the Apostles:
Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

The Apostles, Peter being the Chief were certainly in charge of the Early Christian Church.

Clean up your church before attacking others.
But I guess your denomination is without sin.
Cast the first stone.

Wonderful prayer for our President.

I would add Eph. 1:15ff, “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and REVELATION in the knowledge of Him...I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened.......”

Oh bother. Instead of repeating what you have been taught or reading with a shallow mind understand this 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

"“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven;"
So what are the keys of Heaven? The Bible tells us. Have you read it?

" whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
The precepts Jesus taught them were to be enforced. They were to be adhered to. Not added to nor subtracted from.

Then after Easter Christ told all the Apostles:
Sorry, no Easter in the Bible and no hunting and hiding eggs for the Disciples.

"Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained."
The Church was to be pure and members held to a standard. If Church members went back to a life of sin, they were to be reprimanded and/or expelled. You cannot have sin destroying a Church from within. Willful idolaters, adulterers and thieves were to have no part in the holy Church services. Contrast that with todays same-sex ceremonies and Eucharists for abortion advocates and practitioners.

The Apostles, Peter being the Chief were certainly in charge of the Early Christian Church.

Laughable. Peter is never referred to as such. In fact arguments about "Which one of them was the greatest" would never have taken place. It took 4 centuries before some theologian came up with this horrible nonsense. The only Rock the Bible refers to in the Bible that is the cornerstone of the Church is Christ Himself. That's OT and NT both.
And not a hint of succession of Apostles. Does the present Pope walk on water? If indeed he did do some honest miracle, I would question the source of of his power. I doubt it would be Heavenly.

Your comment: “Nonsense. Only by contortions and twisting of Scripture does one believe that.”

Sounds like you make up your own Truth and do not understand God’s Truth.

Jesus established His Church (around 90 AD was called the Catholic Church) with Peter and the Apostles as the first leaders of His Church and this leadership was passed down to Bishops and Priests by anointing.

The Church was established for all sinners and Jesus gave His Church the Sacraments to lead us to eternal life with God.

At the time of Jesus and the Apostles, the teachings of Jesus were given orally (Sacred Tradition)and passed through His Church before they were written. These teachings were written so that could used to teach Catholics at Mass.

The beginning of Christ’s Church was subject to persecution by Romans and Jews and Catholics prayed the Mass in homes in small groups in hiding. The Mass included the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Christ’s Church began at Pentecost and continues until today. There have been many splits from the Catholic Church by Heresy and Apostasy.

Multiple ‘christian’ denominations can have their own beliefs or opinions, but they can’t change God’s Truth. Christ warned us about false prophets and false teachers. There are many among that have beliefs or opinions that are not God’s Truth.

Speaking of manners, are you the Welcome Wagon to newcomers? Is longevity on a forum indicative of truthfulness? In any case, therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

Donald Trump did attend Peale’s church with his father when he was young.

Back then, liberal protestants were not whacked-out “gay”/feminist/semi-communist crazies like they are now. Just as Kennedy, Humphrey, and other liberal Democrats were not radical/socialist/commie crazies like all too many 2020 Democrats.

Of course Trump’s former church recognizes “gay” “marriage”. It’s part of the UCC. But 50 years ago, things were different!!
