Some of this is bunk. I know several deluded people who have no need for God or think they are fine with God and live happy sinful lives. It seems like people who believe God face the most hard times.

Check in with them again in 20 years. I have a sister-in-law who was one of those. At some point, my wife and her mother had to stage a rescue operation for her, traveling 1,400 miles to bring her home, because she was about to be institutionalized after having a complete mental breakdown.
