Ten weddings and two funerals: this is the formula used in the Brussels circles to describe the current path in the enlargement process. Ten candidate countries are on the way to signing their accession to the European Union by the end of the year, and join in 2004. Two other candidate countries, Romania and Bulgaria, are expected to be told they have to work more to improve their economic performance before being accepted. However, Bucharest and Sofia are set to fight to transform the funeral into an engagement.
Roadmap and entry date
The two countries will seek to get a date for their wedding to the European Union. The European Commission will recommend in its next progress reports in October that Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia join the Union in 2004. The best the two left-out countries can hope is that the Commission proposes a roadmap with a date for completing accession negotiations, as the Commission will be reluctant to propose an entry date.
Bulgaria will try to transform the funeral into an engagement, the chief negotiator with the EU Meglena Kuneva said last Thursday in Brussels. Ms Kuneva said that even though Bulgaria cannot hope for a wedding act this year, it will seek to obtain an engagement with the EU with a promise for a date. Romanian chief negotiator Vasile Puscas told EUobserver.com that Romania will look for getting a detailed roadmap for completing negotiations, at the Copenhagen summit, at the end of the year. The Romanian government announced it wants to end accession talks by the beginning of 2004 at the latest.
Engagement necessary before first enlargement The European Union pledged reinforced financial help and special assistance to the two countries which will not join in 2004. However, the two countries fear that the institutional digestion of the first enlargement wave and the financial problems linked to the inclusion of ten poorer countries in the EU risk diminishing the EUs enlargement appetite. They would therefore seek to obtain an engagement, with a clear date, before the first enlargement wave.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.
The Dead Frog Report
A frog placed into a pan of water with a low flame under it will slowly be boiled alive, the temperature change being too small for the frog to notice. If you tossed the frog into water already boiling, it would leap out. This scenario is exactly what is occurring today with the break down of moral values. The bubbles from the boiling action are rising up all around us, and few people realize what is taking place.

Mack:
It is not coincidental that this is the third year in a row that Pesach and Holy Week are the same week.
Prior to this there were full lunar eclipses on the feasts of Moses for three years running.

Just as the Jews misinterpreted the phrophecies regarding their "end times" and struck down their Messiah, "Christians" are about to make a very similar mistake. You and I both know they are misinterpreting these end time prophecies so the stage is set for history to indeed repeat itself. Remember, an ancient and true religion became so corrupt that God destroyed the one true witness He had established in the world whereby men could learn the truth and be saved. Seems God has more trouble out of the "religous" than the "nonreligous".
Their proof, authority, indentity and purpose for us today is all we lack.
If you want to put this into an end-time prophecy framework, I will also point out that we Orthodox have a prophetic tradition which continues to the present (for example, St. Seraphim of Sarov prophesied the Bolshevik persecution at a time when Imperial Russia's power was near its height, while the fifth century prophecy of St. Nilius foresaw for the late 20th century air-travel, submarines, and telecommunications--all deceits of the forces preparing the way for the anti-Christ, by the way, as well as including an ambiguous passage about not being able to tell men from women because of the shamefulness of their dress, which could either refer to unisex clothing or drag queens). One of our more recent prophecies foretells that the rise of the antichrist will be opposed by a pious Russian Tsar. (I have wondered recently, whether a pious Russian president might fit.)
