This is an interesting topic. I never thought about it, but no VP on that list was any good. I suppose Gerald Ford was okay as he helped heal the nation after Watergate.
Ford was a decent caretaker. But then he refused to step aside, and the nation ended up with Jimmy Carter. (We could have had Reagan four years earlier.)
As for Nixon, his later embrace of China and the EPA soured me in him.
Bush Senior
None of the Above
I was a pre-teen at the time, but I remember the media hated Spiro Agnew. That’s always a good sign. They also hated Dan Quayle.
Harry Truman??
Cheney was a rare case of a VP who had no aspirations to run for President, and who was also more competent than the President he served under.
John Adams
Nixon would definitely say Ford. LOL
1 = Good
5 = Terrible
Kamala Harris - 4
Mike Pence - 3
Joe Biden - 5
Dick Cheney - 3
Al Gore - 4
Dan Quayle - 2
George HW Bush - 3
Walter Mondale -3
Nelson Rockefeller - 3
Gerald Ford - 2
Spiro Agnew - 3
Hubert Humphrey - 3
Lyndon Johnson - 5
Richard Nixon - 2
None of these veeps were very good. The only reason I rate some of these a 2 is because they didn't screw up the nation in any detrimental way.
Richard Nixon
Who cares? The position tends to be overrated. It only matters when the Vice President becomes the President, unexpectedly.
All of these VPs have served during my lifetime. There was nothing wrong with Nixon as VP. If the Democrats hadn’t stolen the 1960 election there would not have been a Vietnam war. Just saying.
Nixon
Realistically (and perhaps unfortunately) Vice-Presidents are typically picked because of their ability to sway enough voters for the head of the ticket to get into office. There are only two that I can think of on this list who may have done this. One was Dick Cheney (for George W. Bush), who was viewed as offering experience and stability to the ticket. Florida was so close that Cheney’s addition was probably enough to make the difference. The second one was Mike Pence. His takedown of Tim Kaine in their VP debate probably caused enough confidence enabling Trump to eke out victories in key swing states.
Harry Truman was the last decent VP
All of them have been fairly irrelevant to varying degrees. That is the nature of that job.
No one else but Nelse...
To upset lot of people, I vote for Mike Pence!
He was excellent in support of pres Trump unto the very end.
The Jan 6 was not his fault! He really could not do anything then.
