Earlier today I went and posted this thread...

01/15/2024 | Everyone

Lively discusion. X broached the topic of First Ladies. So I thought - as we wait on the Iowa Caucus - I'd bring up First Ladies.

So. Who's the Best First Lady we've ever had? Who was the Worst? (Hillary or the Mooch)

Jill Biden

Melania Trump

Michelle Obama

Laura Bush

Hillary Clinton

Barbara Bush

Nancy Reagan

Rosalynn Carter

Betty Ford

Pat Nixon

Lady Bird Johnson

Jackie Kennedy

Mamie Eisenhower

Bess Truman

Eleanor Roosevelt

etc.

Abigail Adams. The deepest
Dolley Madison
Eleanor Roosevelt. Most politically influential (but not for the good)
Jackie Kennedy. Most culturally influential

You mean the One who never felt proud of America until her hubby won the presidency. The One who made school children eat kale for lunch. That One ?

If you’re not being satirical, we’d like to know your definition of “elegant.”

Totally agree with your choices of Melania Trump and Pat Nixon * even if Pat Nixon did smoke - horrid !)

and agree with your worst too, but when was Hillary a vice president ? She was bad enough as secretary of state. Jill Biden and Mooochelle easily top my list of the worst VP’s. Something about hating America and condescension really gets my dander down - as I’m being condescended on.

Grace Goodhue Coolidge had to be the epitome of grace.
They lost their son, Calvin Jr, who died of blood poisoning from a blister playing tennis at age 16.
During her tenure a third floor was added to the White House - the”sky parlour”

After leaving the White House she worked to help the deaf, helped Jews escape from Europe, and loaned her house to WAVES during WWII. She died in 1957.

Since Dolly Madison still ghosts the White House, she should remain as our most courageous First Lady. For facing down Edith Wilson if for nothing else.
