Thank you, Gov Jeb Bush! [FR posters, reply here to thank Jeb re Terri]
10/21/03 | summer

Posted on 10/21/2003 11:09:54 PM PDT by summer

Hello FR,

Yes, there has been GREAT NEWS TODAY ABOUT TERRI! Surely goodness and mercy WILL follow her all the days of her life...

I hope the Lead Moderator allows this Very Special "THANK YOU" thread (that I intend to email to Gov Bush) to stay in the sidebar, so all of you will see it and post on it.

But first, following all the recent (and totally unwarranted) Jeb-bashing on this forum, some people (especially new people) may desperately need this review and mini-lesson about Gov Bush:

(1) For those of you who doubted Gov Bush's DESIRE to HELP in this matter, SHAME ON YOU! Here is the full text of the letter Gov Bush wrote early on to Judge Greer, for those of you who missed it:

From JEB to FR: Full text of Gov Bush's letter to Judge Greer re: Terri Schiavo

(2) For those of you who did not know that Gov Bush has been, and continues to be, "FL's Favorite Governor", for MANY GOOD REASONS, check out these two articles about the guy FL is proud to call its Favorite Gov:

Jeb quietly goes to the rescue of a 2-year-old

Golf Links Bush, Boy [Jeb shares his views, and golf, with autistic teen]

(3) For those of you who are new, and shocked that the governor of the 4th largest state is ALWAYS interested in listening to the people he serves, check out these two articles:

Governor hears Polk County citizens' woes, both strange and sad [Jeb listens..whoa! What an earful!]

World Wide Jeb

(4) Finally, for those handful of posters who actually DOUBTED the JEB-emails I posted on two threads were NOT from him - well, you have missed half a dozen such threads over the years, and believe me, ALL those emails are from him.

And, I am not the only person he has written to over the years. In fact, as I recall, a number of those other people who've heard from him over the years posted here, on this thread I started less than 1 day after Election Day 2002, when Gov Bush was re-elected in a landslide (and made history as FL's first GOP gov to win a 2nd term):

HEY! Q: Guess who took the time to write a special thank-you note to FR posters? A: JEB BUSH!

OK, mini-lesson over!

Now -- if you have something NICE and POSITIVE to say to FL's Favorite Governor (such as: "THANK YOU"), then please do reply on this thread. My own thank you to Gov Bush is posted in my reply #1 below.

Have a BEAUTIFUL DAY!
summer :)

Sir -- Thank you for stepping in and leading the way to protect this helpless woman. May God Bless you!

How about coming to live in NJ so I could vote for you?

Dear Governor Bush,

I'd like to thank you for your assistance in helping to assure that the Sanctity of Life for Terri Schiavo-Schindler and her family remained the focus of this issue. As a voter from another state, I can only say that I admire your resolve and never-wavering dedication to Terri. Without the pressure put upon the legislature by your office and supporters, Terri's story might never have reached and touched all the hearts it has. We who believe you did the Right Thing, the Only Thing, know that Life must prevail.

Thank you, sir. God Bless.

Thanks for the ping, Trussell!

And to Governor Bush, I can't thank you enough for your good work on behalf of Terri and her family! I've written you an email saying as much, but I want to repeat here - how proud we all are of your hard work.

You've been in my prayers, as has Terri and the Shindler family, the members of the legislature of Florida, and all who have fought to free this woman of her destructive husband's influence. May God richly bless you and may He bless all who worked in her behalf.

We can all rest better, knowing you are in charge now!

Thank you for this thread and the opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for Governor Bush's (and the Florida legislature's) moral character in upholding the right to life of an innocent human being. From the left coast, and a proud recallian.

Jeb,

Thank you for doing what had to be done. It's not over yet... the enemies of right crouch for the kill, they never go down for the count.

Keep up the good fight.

Dear Governor Bush,

First of all, thank you and God bless you for stepping in and saving Terri's life. I pray that she recovers from the court-sanctioned torture inflicted upon here this past week.

I pray the plaudits you receive from all of us will hearten you and bolster you against the shuns and assaults you have endured and will continue to receive from the self-annoited elites, their media cranks and even some benighted denizens of this forum, who see Terri and those like her as somehow unworthy of your protection and somehow now out of bounds of the God-given right to life reiterated in our nation's great Constitution.

I pray that people's response to your actions will overwhelm and rattle to the core the smug elitists and their Democrat and RINO henchmen.

I pray that you make sure that your brother gets the message loud and clear that the heartland is revitalized and looking for him to follow your leadership on this kind of thing. A good start would be for him to accept the resignation of that Princeton professor who serves as the head of the President's Committee on Bio-Ethics.

Which brings me to why I have to thank you for the second reason too. It is in the post which follows this one.

Sincerely,
-Avoiding Sulla (son to two elderly Florida voters and brother to two more Florida voters)

Dear Governor Bush,

My second reason to thank you for your actions is that your actions combined with the legislature reminds us of something I think too many people have forgotten.

That the judiciary, our most autocratic and least responsive branch of government, retains its relative independence based upon our tolerance.

When the courts venture outside the areas which concern the public most, they become ripe to be checked in their excess.

You, sir, have accomplished something this week which has not been done in my memory; something I pray will have a rippling effect well past the borders of your great state.

I believe that the courts of our great land are way out of bounds with the thinking of a vast number of Americans. I pray that what you did today -- checked the excesses of our courts in condemning an innocent person to death -- will only be the beginning in checking the excesses of courts where the sense of the people can be rallied as in this case.

Thank you for showing us that the courts CAN STILL BE CHECKED.

Sincerely,

-Avoiding Sulla

When the law is in violation of common human decency -- the overriding principle standard demanded at Nuremburg -- the law is inherently wrong and wise prejudice demands that it be defied.

Keep God in the discussion -- keep God in the equation -- and you keep the American republic.

hey summer, I love and support Jeb and Columba as much as you. Those Jeb bashes need to leave the FR and find some other group to join. How dare them. Thanks for staying true Summer! Thanks Jeb for being the most honorable, honest, kind, wonderful Governor this country has EVER had.

PS Hey Summer, one more thing about Jeb....last week when all those folks were tearing into Jeb---Columba was leading a group from the USA to see the Pope and honor Mother Terase. What Godly folks these two people are. I am so pissed at the back biting. Alot of unloyal people need to hold their head in shame. If any of us had really listened to the kinds of words Jeb uses---they are loyalty, family, dreams, God, faith, family, friends....

Excellent posts; both of them.

It is far past time for us to take steps to reign in the judiciary.

Those steps are clearly within the purview of the Congress, as spelled out in Article 3 of the Constitution.

Alot of unloyal people need to hold their head in shame.

For what? Keeping the pressure on?

Governor Bush is a mere mortal like the rest of us. Certainly it's decent to thank him when he does the right thing (Thanks, Guv!), but there's no moral principle that demands that we put absolute a priori trust in any mortal man. Indeed, such a thing would be foolish.

This is a great post. Thank you.

I saw Judge Napolitano on FOXNEWS and he was livid about this because he thought the governor and legislature overstepped their bounds; that once a court rules, the way to go is to appeal to a higher court. Great, but that might be a nicety Terri couldn't afford to wait for.

Napo thinks that it will be appealed by the "husband"'s lawyers to the FLA Supreme Court, where the feeding tube will then be ordered to be removed again.

If that happens, what, in your opinion, should be the next step for Terri?

God Bless Governor Bush!

He did the right thing. The fact that Terri was never given aggressive rehab is so important. I've worked in and for a Physical Rehab Doctor. A Physiatrist. But even more important. As a young woman, I had a friend whose sister was hit by a large semi truck when she tried to beat it across a road. She was "T" boned. Her head injuries were life threatening. She looked just like Terri at one point.

While she will never be "normal" like you or me, she leads a full life. The differenc between her and Terri is she was aggressively treated. When I was 21 I went into the Air force I lost contact with her family. But she was getting "MARRIED" when I left :o)

She was fully able to communicate and walk and was "BEAUTIFUL".

She seemed slightly handicapped, slightly mentally challenged. But she honestly was very functional. According to the family she was in a vegatative state for a couple years after her accident.

God Willing.. this will happen to Terri also. Hope lives, thanks to the intervention of Governor Bush.

Who knows. But we would never have known. We do know that she smiles and has a "quality of life" as it is now. That at one time she even gave that same "quality of life" to her own grandmother before she died. She never suggested that her grandmother be tortured to death or euthanized.

There should be a law, that unless a persons last wishes are "witnessed" by someone else, they are not valid. Or if an alleged "spouse" has moved on like this man did,. that the famlies wishes superceed those of the spouse.

Regardless,..

Thanks Governor Bush, for "doing the right thing".

God Bless you and yours Sir!!

Dear Governor Bush,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. To be honest with you, I never expected less. The Bush family is a decent bunch of folks. You've got my vote if you ever decide you might want to live in the White House for a couple of terms. Your action in this Shiavo case is just another example of why.
God bless and guide you to continue to do right in His sight.
