Montel Williams Fined For Marijuana Paraphernalia
CBS 2 ^ | Nov 5, 2003 | AP

ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) Television talk show host Montel Williams was fined $100 after authorities at Detroit Metropolitan Airport found him with marijuana paraphernalia.

Williams, who has multiple sclerosis, has been prescribed medicinal marijuana to treat the disease, The Detroit News reported. The 47-year-old paid the fine Monday night, boarded a flight and left Michigan.

"He has prescriptions for many different medications for MS," a statement on his behalf read. "One of the medications he has been prescribed to alleviate his chronic pain is medical marijuana."

Messages from The Associated Press seeking comment from producers of Williams' talk show weren't immediately returned.

Airport police referred calls to airport spokesman Mike Conway, who declined to comment on the matter.

Let's see: Williams gets in trouble for using a substance that helps alleviate his pain and certainly does no injury to others. Hmmm...ya think it might be time to re-examine our marijuana laws?

ILLEGAL Marijuana is OK for Montel

LEGAL Pain killers are BAD for Rush?

Is something WRONG with this picture?

Other than the obvious - BAN the DEA, 99% of drug laws, and the "War on Drugs"

Is there any state legally distributing "medicinal" marijuana? Does having a prescription for marijuana make it any more legal than just seeking it out on your own?

California; and no, but according to the Constitution and the laws of that state, marijuana is legal there. I think a couple of other states also have med-pot laws as well.

I am a medical Marijuana parient from Long Beach, CA. I got it prescribed for chronic back pain. The state of California distributes no pot, However co-operatives run by medical marijuana patients sell pot legally to other patients. Ordinary patients can get "caregiver" status meaning they can grow pot not just for their own use, but for as many patients as they can prove they supply to. Being a medical Marijuana patient does afford special rights...you are allowed to buy and sell pot with impunity from other patients, and you can grow pot for personal use, even in California. I go to the Inglewood Medical Marijuana co-op and buy medical grade bud with my credit card. The only bummer is it costs more than it does on the street. $65 and eighth versus $50. Hope I could enlighten some who didn't know that a medical marijuana perscription is a get out of jail card!

You wondering but is it better than the stuff the Canadian Government is growing? I've heard it's as bad as old rope.

Dammit! Both Rush and Montel should have been shot by firing squad for ingesting substances into their bodies!

End this B.S. "War on Drugs!" We should be waging war on terrorists and treasonous SOB's rather than harmless pot-smokers. Treatment has been proven a FAR BETTER use of public money than busting users or concocting elaborate stings.

It's legal here in Oregon, as well...

No offense, but you speak the jargon of a doper.

I wonder if his 'medical' Marijuana came from one of those scam doctors in California. Funny how the pro-drug media fails to mention that.

it doesn't matter if the doctor was an activist or not, the people voted (prop 215) to let doctors prescribe cannabis as necessary. Do states rights still exist? not when a California judge is a pussy and bows down to federal law.

"Drugs" are the physician's weapon against disease, so sans any pharmaceutical medical marijuana, the next best option is to allow the pt. acess to beneficial drugs via alternative routes. Physicians in California and elsewhere are liscesened to practice medicine by the state which includes a four-year post graduate education in the science of the function of the human cell (with three national board examinations covering the basic and clinical science of medicine) , as well as at minimum a 3 three year apprenticeship in the art and practice of human medicine (followed by another speciality specific national board examination). No other area of professional education requires so much studying and training, yet, because you don't like marijuana, probably for reasons you cannot even articulate, you call these doctors "scams". Where's your professional degree? You want physicians to be able to treat every pt. to the best of their ability and knowledge, and then bitch and moan when they do. It so hypocritical it makes me want to spit.

Please don't confuse real doctors with these dope pushing leftists. Breaking the law is not part of the oath they take.

With you I'm not going to get into a long discussion on the federal constitution. There are certain elements of that document that you should be aware of - including the fact that it is supreme to any laws passed by the states. Even ones backed by dope pushers and anti americans like George Soros. Its a check against clowns like ones you're defending.

LOL - The physican's oath is to treat their pt., respective of laws or not. Doc's take no "oath" to follow every little legislative juvenilety. Medicine is the art of individual integrative care; you can't "legistlate" what "drugs" are or are not good for pt. treatment becuase the legislature has NO CLUE what drugs are and are not good for pt. care. The care of pts is an art and a calling, but since you don't like the particular Rx you smear the physicians trying to do what's best for their pts. Once again I ask: where's your professional degree?
