Clear outside? Look to the east before sunup!

Jupiter and Venus are in conjunction (next to each other in the sky, as viewed from Earth) today. They've swapped positions over the last 24 hours, so Jupiter is slightly above and to the left of Venus in the early morning sky above the eastern horizon. Take a break, drag yourself away from the keyboard and monitor. Toss on a jacket if it's cold out where you live, step outside and enjoy this sight. Mars is also visible a bit higher in the sky.

I noticed when I walked the dog this AM that there were tow very bright stars low on the horizon in the east. I remember thinking those large stars had to be planets and wondered which ones. Thanks for the post!

Luckily I can see them out my bedroom window. Tres cool.

I noticed them yesterday morning and meant to check to see which planets they were. Thanks for the info.

Thanks! Saw them this morning when I left for work and wondered what they were. They were so big and bright and so close together it was kind of weird.

Thanks for the link, Izzy! Glenn: from Izzy's link:

Early on Tuesday morning, Nov. 9, the show will reach its peak, when about 45 minutes before sunrise, Venus, Jupiter and the Moon – the three brightest objects of the night sky – form a stretched-out triangle. The Moon will appear closely above Jupiter. Meanwhile, Spica and Mars will lie well below the Moon, appearing just above the horizon.

Don't say you haven't been told in advance!

Tweak to original post: Mars is slightly below Venus as you look to the east. Misread my Tidelog.

I looked. I saw. I went back to sleep :)

I did debate breaking out the telescope, but, it was early!

I saw it! I love this kind of stuff! I knew one had to be Venus, but I didn't know the other was Jupiter.

I'm looking east and it appears those two planets have exploded into a brilliant orange fireball!.
