It would be interesting to see who the first Democrat/Hollyweird/MSM person to make a racist joke would be.
Andy Rooney? Babs?
Sold his soul for TV time. Forget it.
I agree but lets hope it doesn't come to that.
I only vote for him because I wouldn't vote for any dem these days. A lot of pubs in Nebraska don't care much for him, think he talked the right talk to get elected, but is a basic rino on most things. He's used the same methods Ben (bad hair-do) Nelson uses to get elected as a dem in a red state.
Bill Owens managed to blow the Senate seat (which he could have held had he run) and needs to put his marriage back together. I've really soured on him. The CFG has made some weird endorsements and this would be another.
Pawlenty and Sanford I like (each has a reelection to go, and 2006 will be particularly telling for Pawlenty), but Sanford has some weird libertarian votes on his record ("I supported it but I voted against it because ....") which could come back to bite him.
Racicot is sketchy on conservatism and brings nothing electorally, and missed a chance to win us a Senate seat, and doesn't seem to have done much for the MT GOP.
Huckabee's a fatass who raised taxes (although he did a lot of other good things, including cutting taxes and social issues).
JC Watts I would love to support for Prez. But he may run for OK Gov in 2006 instead, which is good too. If he won he'd be the #1 far & away choice for VP in 2008.
George Allen was guv of Virginia and has retained the personal touch as a senator. He'd be good.
Rick Santorum I like but would not be a good national candidate.
Chuck Hagel (R-France) if by some strange fluke he's the nominee I will cast a write in vote for Zell Miller.
I read that she was reluctantly pro-choice and that was a few years. I think she has left the door open for a change on that issue.
OK, so did he raise taxes or cut them??
Just razzin ya!
Anyway, I think a Pawlenty/Sanford or Sanford/Pawlenty ticket has some potential. I seriously think these two guys are the most promising. I didn't think about George Allen, but he might be a good one too. We can't run a Frist (who'd be another Dole, as much as I respect both Dole and Frist, it's the truth), Hagel, hell no-and Giuliani and Pataki are too liberal.
I still think Rick Santorum could add some spice to a national ticket as a VP, might help electorally in PA. But-let's see how his 2006 re-election goes first.
I'm disappointed in Owens. He coulda been the one but he blew it.
You're right, Sanford has voted weird a couple times. Might make him better for the VP rather than the top. But-a few voters that may otherwise vote LP might go for Sanford. Besides, Pawlenty/Sanford would work-we'd have a new GOP governor in a traditionally Democratic but increasingly conservative state-this would get MN, as well as probably Wisconsin. Sanford would bring the South home.
Yes.
That's a good point about Santorum as VP. We need at least half the ticket from the Great Lakes/northern industrial, and we don't really have anyone for Wisconsin or Michigan (tho John Engler for Prez is a good idea, maybe VP) or even Ohio (Ken Blackwell if he gets elected governor).
I'm a native Nebraskan, and in fact from the same home town as Chuck Hagel, so I'd love to support him. But I think there are some really valid concerns, and too many Kerry-like nuances to the guy.
So, he's not up for re-election until 2008? Does he have to give up his seat in order to run for the Presidency? Vote this guy out of office, he's the biggest mess I've ever seen, even worse than McCain.
Blackwell is another one. I live in Ohio and will be campaigning heavily for him in 2006, he WILL be our next Governor!
After that, maybe a Presidential run in 2016?? Or-if God forbid, we lose in 2008, maybe in '12.
Just don't take him from us that fast, we need to give him a couple years to straighten Ohio out!
There isn't anyone from Wisconsin or Michigan, you're right about that. Which is why I like Pawlenty, as well as Santorum.
I've heard Engler's name thrown around, but he's pretty RINOish from what I know about him.
Addendum-Engler MIGHT be OK. I'd have to learn more about him, though.
Senator Chuck Hagel (R)
Nebraska
Republican, Years of Service: 7
ACU Ratings for Senator Hagel: | |
Year 2003 | 100 |
Year 2002 | 95 |
Lifetime | 85 |
Is there anyone who Republicans can rally around in Nebraska to replace Hagel?
I am so tired of watching this jerk placate the MSM at the expense of Republican principles and President Bush's policies.
Now is the time to start a "Hagel Out in 08" movement.
Sadly no. Nebraska has always had a shortage of good politicians. We may be a largely Republican state, but many of the Republicans in our state aren't the greatest folks serving today. Rep. Tom Osborne for instance only serves, because he is popular from his career as a football coach, but has no real valuable experience to serve in politics in my opinion.
Ahh the ACU ratings do a nice job of shooting down the meme that Hagel is "Liberal". Thanks for posting them.
I don't always agree with Hagel, but I certainly wouldn't call him a liberal.
Amazing how quickly someone who has the gumption to speak up about his party's ills gets labeled a RINO.
I hope he runs, just to hold folks accountable after four more years of Bush in the White House. And because I hope he runs, he pushes back in the Senate some of the outragous spending coming out of Pennsylvania Ave that's been getting passed the last few years.
For which Party?
