I use to worship Sec Of State Powell....I KNOW he is a GOOD and GREAT soldier and man....but I think he was never really in favor of the Iraq war, tho he did support Pres Bush after it started, BUT he gave the dems a lot of ammunition during the election, in his hesitant style of support....I dont think he ever lied, but I never think his heart was really in supporting the war, so now its time for him to go, which he knows... Pres Bush does need someone way more outspoken in favor of the war and the things needing to be done...

It doesn't break my heart none. I've never been his greatest fan, to say the least.

But I will say this: on balance, he's been a very loyal and supportive team-player. We've gotten noises about this and that variance from W, but when crunch-time came, he always stood with the President.

And this: he gave W more claim to credibility from those not initially inclined to give it. He's universally admired and respected, for the most part, and it was indeed a plus for W to have him on his team.

Now I hope (A) for a good replacement, and (B) that Powell has the brains to know that every MSM reporter in the known universe will try to lavish adoration on him if he will trash W, from the first nanosecond he's gone, and (B) the character to resist that temptation.

Lets face it these are the two most important things this administration can do to ensure future American security.

The third being to out the UN for the corrupt den of thieves that it is.....stay tuned!

He was my leader in the army and he did us proud.

Amen. And he did a fine job as SecState during very difficult times.

Me too.

It's clear that just putting up a wall around the US isn't going to solve all the problem.

We need to goto the root of the problem, and that is Mexico. We need to make Mexico a place where people actually want to live so they don't want to run here.

That's what the administration is looking to do and it's a fresh new approach that I am more than willing to see how they do with it.

I'm not going to hammer them like alot of the jackals (no offense guys :)) on here are doing until I see what they are going to do. If it looks like it's going nowhere, I'll pile on :).

I'm not carrying there water. I'm not a kool-aid drinking Republican. But I think they deserve a chance to get something done.

Stepford Norah was just on MSNBC starting to ramp up the rhetoric about a "mass exodus".

The MSM can chatter away, but Americans have seen Presidents come and go and they've seen their Cabinets shuffle during their administrations--many with a constantly revolving door. Americans are not stupid and as aggravating as it is for the MSM to paint their dishonest portrait, the effort to once again tarnish Dubya will fail.

If Powell wanted to be President he would have run in 1996 or 2000. He was the only Republican in 1996 who polled ahead of Clinton.

Agree. We need to make Mexico a suitable place to live. That's the administrations policy, and I'm willing to give them a chance.

No kidding. There needs to be someone appointed who can clean house in the State Department.

As I think Bill Kristol put it, sometime last century the State Department stopped being the representative for American interests abroad and started being the representative for foreign interests in the United States.

"IF" I had a $100.00 to bet I would take you on. I do not believe he will run, he really has no base.

I really thought Powell would stay now that Arafat is dirt-napping. But then, I haven't been the one who has been trotting the globe...that has to become a major drag in a hurry. Though I didn't always agree w/ him, Powell is an honorable man & I salute his service to this country.

The real Colin Powell will probably now stand up. It should be interesting to see with what group he associates himself, what causes and so on. I doubt he'll disappoint his many critics in this.

I remember his wife is dead set against his running, otherwise he would have already. We'll see.

I agree with you. Powell is a respectful man.

Naysayers should recognize that Powell has been loyal to his President. We've heard, at times, that there were disagreements on direction, but Powell was a solid soldier.

He took his mission and executed it with integrity, loyalty, and professionalism.

I liked him. I still do. I wish he'd run for a senate seat from wherever he's retiring to.

Good. He's not a team player and had to be brought back in line too often. We need Hawks, not Doves.
