I believe the only one in congress who is serious about this problem is Mr. Tom Tancredo. I want him to run for President.

Yes, and they would also need to appologize to Martha Stewart. I didn't see them letting her off with a fine of $1000 for lying. But then she's a citizen, isn't she?

Screw immigration reform and close the damn border. If he really is concerned then his first priority should be to secure the borders in the quickest and most efficient manner.I'm tired of wondering how many terrorist are crossing our borders everyday while our politicians sit around with their thumbs up their .

If Chuck would give more specifics on what he wants to do, he could have the nomination in the bag.

All Hagel is doing is trying to play to the small minority of people who are obsessed with the issue of immigration.

By "small minority of people", are you referring to the voters of California (the most populous state in the country) who passed Prop 187, and the voters of Arizona who passed Prop 200? In addition, several other states are in the process of getting their own anti-illegal immigration propositions on their state ballots within the next 2-4 years.

You guys are so transparent, if you were true to your usual rhetoric on FR, you would be demanding Hagel ship them all out in boxcars.

Nah, I'd be just as happy to see them all shipped out on airplanes and buses.

I thought $1500 made it "not amnesty". What is the dollar penalty when we can call it amnesty? $999.95?

If we let illegal aliens legally stay in the U.S. after they pay their fines, then the illegal aliens will have benefitted from violating our immigration laws because they will be allowed to stay here, which was their goal all along. To me, that is an amnesty, fine or no fine. Can you imagine fining a bank robber $1500 for robbing a bank, but then letting that bank robber keep the money that he stole? Even after paying the fine, he will still have benefitted from robbing the bank.

I am ashamed to say that this idiot is my US Senator. I as GOP are more proud of Sen Nelson (A DEM) that I am of this moron.

You've got to be kidding! Hagel has a 100% voting record for 2003 a 95% for 2002 and a 85% lifetime record with the American Conservative Union What does it take to earn your vote?

The mode of transportation for their removal isn't important, so long as they are removed. Wheelbarrows, Chevy pick-ups, or stolen bass boats from Ensenada would work just as well as INS buses. The end result is the impotant part; that being: they ain't here anymore.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Interestingly, Fienstein replied to a letter I wrote, that she agreed illegal immigration was a big problem and how much it was costing the state of California. She sent this bill and it's sponsers against the totalization Social security agreement with Mexico.

Why don't you stay with WI and get rid of the 2 clowns you have for US Senators and leave NE to the grown-ups.

We've got 10 to 12 million immigrants here illegally

Blah blah blah. More talk is all this is. Oh by the way Mr. Hagel, the number of illegals are much higher and thats not even counting the past amnesties given by prior presidents.

A "coyote" is a Mexican who is paid to smuggle people over the border and often to get them to a particular destination in the USA. They know where the border is very easy to cross, they know how to bypass the interior checkpoints --- of course almost everyone knows that. Some illegals know how to make it over on their own because it's not very difficult to those who know how the border works --- but for Guatemalans, Oaxacans, Mayans and those other in the interior, a coyote comes in handy.
