LONDON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Nearly two years after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, women there are no better off than under the rule of ousted dictator Saddam Hussein, the human rights group Amnesty International said on Tuesday.

In a report entitled "Iraq -- Decades of Suffering," it said that while the systematic repression under Saddam had ended, it had been replaced by increased murders, and sexual abuse -- including by U.S. forces.

Washington promised that the overthrow of Saddam would free the Iraqi people from years of oppression and set them on the road to democracy. But Amnesty said post-war insecurity had left women at risk of violence and curtailed their freedoms.

Was Amnesty this passionate about women's rights during the Sadam decades? What about Saudi Arabia? And I just saw on the news this morning that several women were executed for the crime of prostitution in Nigeria. What has Amnesty ever done besides sit on the sidelines and write their worthless reports?

Amnesty International is an enemy of human freedom. They oppose any action that concretely deals with tyrants. But this statement is off-the-charts insane. Let's hope that it opens the eyes of the oppressed peoples to the nature of first world socialists.

AI credibility sinks even further. Wasn't sure that was possible, but they continue to surprise.

I actually laughed out loud when I read the title.

Socialism doesn't just make people stupid, its promotion requires people to pretend that they are.

"The lawlessness and increased killings, abductions and rapes that followed the overthrow of the government of Saddam Hussein have restricted women's freedom of movement and their ability to go to school or to work," Amnesty said.

No mention in this article that it is the same ones doing it to Iraqi women plus an influx of Jihadists.

I know this is a sore point for some Freepers but "It's Bush's fault"

Yeah, right. Uday used to have his goons grab teenaged girls off the street; he'd take them home, rape them, and then feed them to his lions. Every woman in Iraq looked forward to that, I'm sure.

So all those women who risked their lives to vote were not really out there voting.

What is the idiotic basis for this article.

Amnesty Int. And the UN.

Two large POS's that are totally incompetent. Amnesty never opens their mouth unless it is totally safe to do so. As in "bashing" the USA.

My opinion is that Amnesty is a dirty crack that needs wiped clean. Amnesty and PETA were obviously hatched from the same bird.

Amnesty Internationl is nothing more than a front organization for leftists. This charade has got to stop. AI's entire mission is political, not humanitarian.

Here is something they couldn't do while under Saddam's regime!

Don't you just love it when you can prove the news reports are a pack of lies!

That loon Eason Jordan may still be running the CNN gig. Or maybe now he heads up the amnesty liars club, it is hard to tell the difference. This stuff is so blatantly absurd it suggest these communists cannot even hire a good media firm to spread their drivel. Just incredible.
