PRESERVED T. Rex Soft Tissue RECOVERED (Pic)

WASHINGTON — For more than a century, the study of dinosaurs has been limited to fossilized bones. Now, researchers have recovered 70-million-year-old soft tissue, including what may be blood vessels and cells, from a Tyrannosaurus rex.

If scientists can isolate proteins from the material, they may be able to learn new details of how dinosaurs lived, said lead researcher Mary Higby Schweitzer of North Carolina State University.

"We're doing a lot of stuff in the lab right now that looks promising,'' she said in a telephone interview. But, she said, she does not know yet if scientists will be able to isolate dinosaur DNA from the materials.

The soft tissues were recovered from the thighbone of a T. rex, known as MOR 1125, that was found in a sandstone formation in Montana. The dinosaur was about 18 years old when it died.

It would be hard to name the animals when you can't speak or formulate words yet.

The Bible does not say how much time passed between Adam's creation and his naming of the animals.

Um, wow. 'Of course, I know I'm right, and anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot anyway.'

Want to show me any living or historical persons who lived even 150 years?

Seriously, what kind of metal contortions must one go through to believe in a 900 year human lifespan, when all our experience and medical knowledge tells us 100 years is a long time for a human to live?

I want one too. Please. Figure on raising it to an adult then letting it loose so we can see Liberals deal with a big nasty animal that's an endangered species.. The running about "we have to protect it" crowd would be absolutely entertainment at it's finest.

More recently it's been seriously suggested that there are children alive today who will live into the multi-hundreds of years due to stem cell technology.

The Bible does not say how much time passed between Adam's creation and his naming of the animals.

Yes, it does!

 Genesis 1

 20.  And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
 21.  And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
 22.  And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
 23.  And the evening and the morning were
the fifth day.
 24.  And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
 25.  And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
 26.  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
 27.  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
 28.  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
 29.  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
 30.  And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
 31.  And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 2
 7.  And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, (during the sixth day) and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
 8.  And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
 9.  And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
 10.  And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
 11.  The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
 12.  And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
 13.  And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
 14.  And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
 15.  And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
 16.  And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
 17.  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
 18.  And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
 19.  And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
 20.  And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
 21.  And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
 22.  And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman(during the sixth day) and brought her unto the man.
 23.  And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

I will not claim my tagline as original.  It's a line from my favorite place at DisneyWorld, the Adventurer's Club at Pleasure Island.  We've spent so much time there that we've made friends with some of the regular cast, which includes one guy who was in the Mel Gibson movie The Patriot, and several who were in the HBO mini-series From The Earth To The Moon (filmed largely at MGM studios at WDW).  They are quite talented and REALLY FUNNY.

The official Disney site for The Adventurer's Club:

A couple of pretty good fan sites: http://www.adventurersclub.net/ and http://www.etixland.com/ADVCLUB/ACMain/ACmain.htm

The guy in the center is The Colonel.  And, yes, he is nailed to the furniture.  I'll never forget the time we assembled a 30 foot straw so he could get a drink from the bar.

The CLUB CREED:

We climb the highest

mountain, just to get a better view

We plumb the deepest oceans,
cause we're daring through and through.
We cross the scorching desert,
Martini in our hand.
We ski the polar icecaps,
in tuxedo looking grand.
We are reckless, brave and loyal, and valiant til the end.
If you come in here a stranger, you will exit as a friend.

KUNGALOOSH!

CLUB SONG:

Marching along we're adventurers
Singing the song of adventurers
Up or Down, North, South, East, or West
An adventurers life is best
An adventurers life is best.

And the club "word" is Kungaloosh: an all-purpose adventurers' term which, much like "aloha," can mean just about anything; e.g., hello, goodbye, wanna get lucky?, excuse me, there's toilet paper stuck to your shoe, etc.

They tell you to use it on someone and, if they react positively, you know you've found a fellow adventurer.  If they don't react positively, well, you can always just quietly move away!

Freepers would probably feel right at home at AC.

If you read Gen Chapter 2 beginning in verse 4 you will notice that the text brings us more detail for day 6 that wasn't given in Gen Chapter 1. In effect God zeroes in on His most important creation, MAN. In Gen Chapter 1 God describes the creation of Adam and Eve on Day six.

So when you look at Gen Chapter 2 you will realize Adam named the animals prior to the creation of Eve. Here are a few relevant passages.

Gen 1:27-31
27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein [there is] life, [I have given] every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Gen 2:20-23
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

There's a little part in the back of my brain that can't help but think it might actually be kinda cool if dinosaurs were running around eating people.

I can see it too! The DNC primary could be our first test! After all the Dems allready have DINOs so a T-Rex wouldn't be noticed. Put the T-Rex next to Zell Miller, and let it go to town!

Cheers,

" Genesis does not specifically say that Adam was created as a full-grown man. You are assuming that He did."

It does say it, but if you want those exact words then you can sit back and think that you are right. But you are wrong.

I've managed to restrain myself from getting involved in, as you've put it, 'the 1,000th chess game' between evolutionists, creationists, and literal biblists. Just can't do so any longer!

Wonk, put up or shut up: cite Bible chapter and verse where it defines whether or not Adam was created 'a full-grown man'. If no-can-do, then concede oremites' point.

Interesting. There are currently a little over 9000 species of birds on Earth. Since evolution never happened, there must have been at least 9000 back then, plus all the ones that drowned int he flood and otherwise became extinct. There are over 4000 mammalian species, nearly 8000 reptile species, and over 4000 amphibians. That's 25000 species to be named; and since YECers beleive fossils were all real animals that drowned in the flood, I'd estimate you have at least the smae number again of extinct species. So with, say, 50,000 species to name, and a fraction of a day to do it, was Adam a Texan auctioneer or what?

...all our experience and medical knowledge ...

HA Ha ha.......

Job 40

 1.  The LORD said to Job:
 2.  "Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!"
 3.  Then Job answered the LORD:
 4.  "I am unworthy--how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth.
 5.  I spoke once, but I have no answer-- twice, but I will say no more."
 6.  Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm:
 7.  "Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.
 8.  "Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
 9.  Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like his?
 10.  Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.
 11.  Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at every proud man and bring him low,
 12.  look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand.
 13.  Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave.
 14.  Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you.
 15.  "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox.
 16.  What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly!
 17.  His tail  sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit.
 18.  His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron.
 19.  He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword.
 20.  The hills bring him their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby.
 21.  Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh.
 22.  The lotuses conceal him in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround him.
 23.  When the river rages, he is not alarmed; he is secure, though the Jordan should surge against his mouth.
 24.  Can anyone capture him by the eyes, or trap him and pierce his nose?

Job 41

 1.  "Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook or tie down his tongue with a rope?
 2.  Can you put a cord through his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook?
 3.  Will he keep begging you for mercy? Will he speak to you with gentle words?
 4.  Will he make an agreement with you for you to take him as your slave for life?
 5.  Can you make a pet of him like a bird or put him on a leash for your girls?
 6.  Will traders barter for him? Will they divide him up among the merchants?
 7.  Can you fill his hide with harpoons or his head with fishing spears?
 8.  If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the struggle and never do it again!
 9.  Any hope of subduing him is false; the mere sight of him is overpowering.
 10.  No one is fierce enough to rouse him. Who then is able to stand against me?
 11.  Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me.
 12.  "I will not fail to speak of his limbs, his strength and his graceful form.
 13.  Who can strip off his outer coat? Who would approach him with a bridle?
 14.  Who dares open the doors of his mouth, ringed about with his fearsome teeth?
 15.  His back has  rows of shields tightly sealed together;
 16.  each is so close to the next that no air can pass between.
 17.  They are joined fast to one another; they cling together and cannot be parted.
 18.  His snorting throws out flashes of light; his eyes are like the rays of dawn.
 19.  Firebrands stream from his mouth; sparks of fire shoot out.
 20.  Smoke pours from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.
 21.  His breath sets coals ablaze, and flames dart from his mouth.
 22.  Strength resides in his neck; dismay goes before him.
 23.  The folds of his flesh are tightly joined; they are firm and immovable.
 24.  His chest is hard as rock, hard as a lower millstone.
 25.  When he rises up, the mighty are terrified; they retreat before his thrashing.
 26.  The sword that reaches him has no effect, nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin.
 27.  Iron he treats like straw and bronze like rotten wood.
 28.  Arrows do not make him flee; slingstones are like chaff to him.
 29.  A club seems to him but a piece of straw; he laughs at the rattling of the lance.
 30.  His undersides are jagged potsherds, leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge.
 31.  He makes the depths churn like a boiling caldron and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment.
 32.  Behind him he leaves a glistening wake; one would think the deep had white hair.
 33.  Nothing on earth is his equal-- a creature without fear.
 34.  He looks down on all that are haughty; he is king over all that are proud."
(Yow!  Sound's like T-Rex to me!!)

Job 42

 1.  Then Job replied to the LORD:
 2.  "I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.
 3.  [You asked,] `Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?' Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
 4.  ["You said,] `Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.'
 5.  My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.
 6.  Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."
 7.  After the LORD had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "
I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.

Your point depends on the assumption that the Bible is talking about literal 24-hour days. I don't believe they are literal 24-hour days. That is a point, I think, that all we can do is agree to disagree about.

There are other possibilities, however. The original post I responded to stated that Adam was created as a full-grown man. Why full-grown? Why not a 6-year-old? 12? 16? At what age is a boy considered a man or a girl considered a woman?
