James Carville: Special Counsel Fitzgerald to Subpoena Top Timesman
NewsMax ^ | 8/8/05

Posted on 08/08/2005 9:08:38 AM PDT by areafiftyone

Former Clinton attack dog James Carville predicted Monday that Leakgate Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will be "coming after more people at the New York Times" - in addition Times reporter Judy Miller, who is in her sixth week behind bars for refusing to divulge her sources.

Calling Fitzgerald "relentless," the Clintonista-turned-CNN commentator told radio host Don Imus: "My sense is he's coming after more people at the New York Times. He's going subpoena Bill Keller and all of them and ask them what Judy Miller told them. And if they don't talk he's going to stick them in jail."

Keller is the Times executive editor.

Carville said there was "heavy, heavy speculation out there" that Miller was being used by the White House to "disseminate this" - an apparent reference to CIA employee Valerie Plame's name.

"There are all sorts of rumors and I hear second hand that [Miller] was screaming out in the news room about this."

The Times, said Carville, "to some extent is going to have to come clean. Because they're going to have to tell us what Judy Miller knew, when she knew it and who she told."

"And there's a lot of people at the Times - and I know this to be a fact - who believe that," he insisted.

"It's going to be very interesting to see," Carville mused, "whether [Miller's] problem is a first amendment [problem] - i.e., I want to protect a source - or a fifth amendment [problem] - I was out spreading this stuff too."

"And if they don't talk he's going to stick them in jail."

Carville is a lawyer by training - he knows better than that. If they do not talk and Fitzgerald chooses to move to have them cited for contempt of court the Judge may order them jailed. There is nothing Fitzgerald can do by the power of his position to jail someone - it is a sanction applied by the court.

But arguing a major factual error like that is to miss the point with Carville - he is relentlessly erroneous.

To be honest I think this whole thing was mastermined by Wilson to bring down Bush but it backfired BIG TIME!

#####

Wilson is small-minded, not a mastermind. He is yet another useful tool, and NOT of people in the White House.

Mary Matlin will be on the Imus program tomorrow. We'll see what she says about all of this.

Parse Carville carefully - and you'll see there's nothing there.

Judy Miller is in jail to protect the left's conspiracy theories. Plame outed herself.

What's the difference between "heavy, heavy speculation " and "wishing"?

Calling Fitzgerald "relentless,"

And so it begins, huh?

I think it has finally dawned on some of the Democrats that this isn't going to turn out the way they originally planned or desired.

Everything I've read about Fitzgerald proves he has impeccable credentials.

Wouldn't anything they say be "hearsay" evidence, therefore inadmissable?

"It really creates the impression that the Times was in cahoots with rogue elements at State and/or the CIA to embarrass Bush."

Coming from the very outfit that orchestrated getting one of their wives on the bench in MA, for the explicit purpose of her finding language in the MA constitution that allows homosexual marriage..........this shouldn't surprise anyone, let alone be out of the realm of reality for the NYT! The NYT is "too big for it's britches" to coin an old phrase. They have taken power, where they have none. They operate as though they are elected officials of the government, and are totally self important!!

"I'm wondering when David Corn will get a subpoena."

Why? Corn didn't hide anything to be subpoenaed. He listed Joe Wilson as his sole source in his original article that outed Wilson's wife as Valerie Plame...kicking off this whole escapade.

Uh, sure... but why should anyone believe them now?

Corn 'hypothetically' fingered the Bushies for leaking the name of Wilson's wife who was a 'covert' agent.

Either he knew her status, or he made one hell of a guess.

Corn was the *first* to publicly expose "Valerie Plame" by name.

Corn listed Joe Wilson as his sole source.

No. Hearsay is an out of court statement offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted. Let's take this example and pretend the proposed testimony of Bill Keller is "Judith Miller told me Valerie Plame was a CIA oficer." If that statement is offered to prove that Plame was indeed a CIA officer, it would be hearsay, because it would be offered to prove its truthfulness. If, however, that statement was offered to prove simply that Judith Miller told Bill Keller that Valerie Plame was a CIA officer, and not to prove that she actually was an officer, it would not be hearsay.
