How Katrina Turned me Republican
Cape Cod Today ^

Posted on 09/17/2005 7:31:30 PM PDT by WBL 1952

I find it personally insulting that the media has all but written President Bush's obituary in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately for the media, we have met the enemy and they are us. Many of us recognize that we have been our own worst enemies in our response to this disaster and the preparedness beforehand (the media included). The conduct of left wingers over the past several weeks has erased any lingering doubts in my mind as to why I have been leaning more toward the conservative side as each year passes. Any progressive views that I share with the left (such as environmental concerns and energy conservation) will remain secondary to the belief that the Republicans are our only hope of maintaining and protecting everything that makes America great. While people were just beginning to be plucked from roof tops in New Orleans, the anti-America, blame-government-first, Bush-haters were immediately on the hunt for a political spin they could put on this tragedy. A situation that boggled the mind, that left us all in horror at its magnitude, was immediately turned into an attack on our President and evidence for his impeachment. This is the most disgusting example of muck raking we have ever witnessed in this country. Accusations were even floated about racism playing a part in the chaotic response to this catastrophe. Never mind that Louisiana has been primarily Democrat since the civil rights movement. Who cares that our system is set up in such a way that local and state authorities respond first? Forget about the Democrats broken promises to the people of Louisiana and utterly failing them. We should ignore that this was one of the swiftest federal responses to a disaster in history. The liberals smelled blood and seized the opportunity.

And I heard a lady call Sean Hannity last week and say that between the Katriana blame-shifting and the ridiculous behaviour of the dem sens questioning Roberts she was changing her voter registration to Republican.

She got the "hannitization" harp chord riff, but she really deserved a caller of the year award, if there was such a thing.

That pretty much sums it up.

The government failed us at every level during Hurricane Katrina, and yet the democrats cry for more government. I am happy to hear you have become a conservative, but this country as a whole is on the slippery slope, and conservative values in the long run will strengthen us. Welcome to the party!

Great post!

But FReepers and rerpublicans in general have known about how the left operates way before Katrina and way before Bush became their target 5 years ago.

The left always counts and hopes for bad news in order to try to better their political fortunes. Bad news for America, whether at war overseas or on the homefront, are the left's best friends.

There is a landmark event coming up in the next few weeks or months which the liberals are awaiting anxiously and gleefully. It is the 2000th American death in Iraq. The liberals will be issuing a collective baseball-stadium-like 'wave' and a large number of high-fives when the magic number of 2000 is reached.

Bad news for America is the left's only hope for getting back into power..

Anyone remember when hurricane ANITA hit the US? Some people actually blamed it on Anita Bryant's fight against gays in Florida. She won, yet the MSM destroyed her.

911 also shocked a few dems out of their party. I think one reason we have more RINO's is they are refugees from the Democratic party cuz they can't stand it any more, but still are quite liberal in many ways.

"...that the Bolshevik Revolution was achieved by the revolutionary-controlled media, which amounted to 2% of the population. I think our media dreams today of repeating that success, but they are pretty stupid if they think they would end up in the ruling 2%."

Very astute point you make. They'll reside in that select 2% briefly until their very own Stalin comes along and massacres every last one of them. They'll go to their doom utterly perplexed at how this could happen to such good and orthodox revolutionaries like themselves.

I recommend Koestler's "Darkness at Noon" and Orwell's "Animal Farm" for a look at the rewards that were reaped by the true believers. Unfortunately, our liberals/communists cannot understand the cosmic irony of those books.

My take is that a bunch of Freepers have infiltrated the media and are making this all up so that they look bad...they can't seriously be as brain dead as they appear. There has to be something else going on, and the idea of stealth Freepers is all I can come up with.

They can't help it.

The rats hate Dubya so much and they are frustrated as to why most people seem to actually like the President. Everything is Dubya's fault. There are movies on the internet that explain how Dubya stole the election in 2000, masterminded the 9-11 attacks so he could wage war in Iraq and eventualy destroy the world. They know Dubya is evil and no good can come from him.

For the next 3 years the rats are going to keep doing things that will hurt them with voters. This is a great time to be a Republican.

How could anyone else respond first? Help begins at the nearest source and expands from there

Welcome aboard. 100 million more minds to sway and we might stay great as a country and watch each other's backs as we should.

I think changing as few as 1 million would give Republicans a 60 seat majority in the Senate. Only about 116,000 million people voted in the 04 elections. Many fewer will vote in 2006. Probably about 80 million.

Dubya won by 3 million in 04. Many of those voters voted for rats in the Senate last time but many of them will vote Republican in 06. More rat seats are up for grabs than Republican in 06. This is a great time to be a Republican

If Katrina was what it took, someone hasn't been paying attention. None of this is new, just a more intense form of an existing psychological disorder: Bush Derangement Syndrome.

To go along with Post Election Selection Trauma (PEST)
