I am a conservative - Long (Double secret vanity)
Rice08

Posted on 11/30/2005 7:11:55 AM PST by rice08

I am a conservative, I think there is no more fitting place to post this than here at FR, the only caveat I will say is that this post has nothing to do with my handle (rice08)

To quote Charles foster Kane, I have a statement of principles on our country and the world as a whole, here is what I believe in no particular order:

-          Cut taxes whenever possible for any reasonable cause

-          Limit government spending, privatize when possible… You want Medicare? Here is a voucher for blue cross/blue shield, go nuts

-          Ronald Reagan was a great president and had a great deal to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union

-          Commies aren’t cool

-          The Chicoms are a real and strategic threat to the security of the United States and the world, I avoid “made in china” whenever humanly possible

-          Always lukewarm on “free trade” because you can call something free trade and it can be something else entirely (see “De-Regulation”)

-          I am strong supporter and believe in the *entire* constitution of the United States, not just certain amendments. that includes the 2nd.

-          Judges should not legislate

-          Treason is real and exists today

-          Democrats have lost their way from the days of Truman

-          Education is a silver bullet for many of society’s problems ; that includes generous vouchers for all takers from any background (From home schooling to the church of frank) I don’t care

-          The MSM is liberal and so are our college campi

-          Freedom of religion is not freedom FROM religion and our great history of religious tolerance proves it

-          The UN and the EU have become corrupt and should be marginalized as institutions

-          The ACLU is a serious threat to this country

-          Lynn Stewart deserves to rot

-          The US Armed forces have been the greatest force for human freedom in the history of mankind.

-          Impeachment of Billary was a vindictive and political act but he was and is a dirtbag.

-          John McCain is a hero to this country but for McCain-Finegold alone deserves great scorn (not to mention his other RINO tendencies)

-          Hillary Clinton is a great political threat to this country

-          Saudi Arabia is not our friend

-          Drill everywhere

- Michael Moore isn’t a patriot

-          Invest in every kind of alternative fuel possible (that includes government investment as well)

-          At the very least have a cold hard look at the drug war

-          None of this 3-5 years for murder 2 crap, lock ‘em away

-          I support the death penalty but I won’t man the barricades for it

-          The war on terror is the most important issue of our time

-          Free peoples and free markets work better than any other form of human civilization, government must exist to protect the rights of the individual first and foremost against the sometimes evil nature of individuals

-          I think corporations should be good US citizens not members of some undefined and unequal global community (see free trade)

-          Iron clad and armed borders with a organized flow of honest immigrants from all corners of the earth are welcome. (I say this as a proud immigrant to this country)

-          The current Republican order in Washington is a virtual disgrace when it comes to the issues of spending and immigration

-          Wal-Mart is not evil except for their enabling of the PRC

-          Unions work when they understand and believe in the capitalist system of supply and demand

You will of course note that some hot button issues are missing. Well guess what, I am by most standards pro-choice, save your arguments. On top of that I couldn’t give two bottles of jack if two or 3 or 5 of anybody or anything got married while being officiated by their pet poodle. I am also a militant atheist who doesn’t give THREE bottles of jack what you believe in and would never dream of telling you what to believe about anything, that said, keep ID out of my face, thanks. I am not going to change in this regard and that isn’t the reason why I posted this.

My point is that all of my conservative friends and family believe in virtually this same platform and we all vote republican. The problem is that if a pro choice republican tried to run for national office with this long list of deeply held beliefs they are DOA due to the passionate and sincere beliefs of the conservative “base” . I am not telling anybody to abandon their faith or their beliefs, quite the opposite.

I am wondering if those reading this understand that the conservative revolution that has been brewing for 40 years is threatened because of this make or break issue. Not because moderating the party’s pro-life stance will attract a larger pool of voters but because it keeps good conservatives out of power, plain and simple.

Education is a silver bullet for many of society’s problems ; that includes generous vouchers for all takers from any background (From home schooling to the church of frank) I don’t care.

People from every background HAVE choice when it comes to education. They can put their children in public schools or private schools. They can home school them, or even hire a private tutor. How can you, as a conservative, advocate a public program to fund alternatives that people can't or won't pay for? What's next? Funding healthcare?

because universal education is such an overarching goal of society (or should be) it is so important that I fully support the blatent wealth distribution that makes it possible.

the money spent on all levels of the gov. on education can and should be handed into the hands of as many people as possible.

Universal education is already available, as are alternatives to the public schools. You want the government to provide something individuals are either unable or unwilling to provide themselves. Those are hardly conservative ideals.

the money spent on all levels of the gov. on education can and should be handed into the hands of as many people as possible.

The Constitution in my state mandates that the state will establish and fund primary and secondary schools. It does not say that the state will subsidize private schools. Let those who choose that option pay for it themselves.

Let's call it privatization, if your state decided in a democratic (small D) fashion that public funds are to be used for education, why not subsidize proven good alternatives (home schooling and private schools) while this diverts funds from public education it also diverts the child.

Frankly, on a personal level I have a hard time accepting that it isn't a life.

I find this more disturbing than a pro-abortionist who denies it is life. If you will read your own post again you will see the dilemma you have created for yourself. You don't want any abortions to happen, yet you want them legal. Why would you not want them to happen unless deep down inside you knew this was a human being? A baby that is two days old can't feed itself, talk, smile, walk, crawl or change it's own diaper. Supposing we decided that under those circumstances it was ok to kill it? Would you view that as nothing more than an ""incredibly personal choice." Using your atheist background as an excuse is lame. There is nothing incompatible about wanting to defend the innocent, and atheism. If I surrender my views on abortion just so we can have vouchers and a balanced budget I believe that makes me totally corrupt.

Because it is still a government subsidy of a private organization and as a conservative I can't support that.

Right...Jeanine "who" < /sarc>

Well...I guess that would mean the answer is "no" as you have no response other than name calling.

That's okay. I'd be embarrassed about overlooking something so obvious, too.

"I think I was clear in saying we can agree to disagree on the matter of abortion and gay marriage and discuss if it is possible to make this a non DOA issue for candidates and judges"

Are you implying that I should hold my nose and vote for Rudy?

I won't vote for one single pro-choicer. Ever.

I called you no name; I only pointed out the folly of your argument...guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. You can like special interests and big money dominating elections but please respect my choice not to...

I called you no name

You see anyone named "jeanine" around here?

I only pointed out the folly of your argument...

If you did, you're the only one who saw which direction you were pointing at the time. If you can identify anything approaching an argument in your response to me, again, you're the only one.

You can like special interests and big money dominating elections but please respect my choice not to...

I only "agree to disagree" with those competent to have a valid opinion. As you don't seem to be able to distiguish between "voting" and the various methods used to persuade voters, I must decline your offer.

So why don't you take us, step by step, through the process of the big, ugly, special interest using it's money to force people to vote for candidates they don't want to vote for.

"Jeanine" as in JEANINE PIRRO...you know, the person running against Hildabeaste in the NY Senate race--and if you clicked on the link you'd find that no one knows who she is because she doesn't have the war chest Hilary does...I used her to point out your (oh, never mind, you just don't get it)

Exactly my point. Apparently building a logical argument is too much effort for you.

no one knows who she is because she doesn't have the war chest Hilary does

How does the size of Hillary's war chest prevent Pirro from buying advertising?

Your argument is totally circular. The size of Hillary's war chest has absolutely nothing to do with how people know her.

Good! Then it won't require much effort on your part to construct a chain of logic then, will it.

I will patiently await your thesis, though you can bet I won't be holding my breath.

Hasn't it become obvious to you yet your witless insults are doing nothing but drawing attention to the fact you aren't answering the question?

I don't want any abortions to happen, I have also come to terms with the incredibly personal nature of the act that I don't want any state entity getting involved. I was talking about atheism in the context of someone's question about why I can be so non chalant about it

and my pro-choice stance does not imply a slippery slope to allowing anything else because lack of government involvement in something is not a precident of involvement in something else in the future.

Rudy happens to be a good example of what I am talking about.
as I said and I am sure you belive, actions have consequences.

President Hillary rodham clinton is the consequence of your stand and your actions in this regard will not save one single fetus from an abortion.

"President Hillary rodham clinton is the consequence of your stand and your actions in this regard will not save one single fetus from an abortion."

Give me a break.

Abortion is abortion no matter how you slice it.

If I vote for Rudy, I make myself no different from Hillary.

No can do.

Like it or not, but if Rudy gets the nomination, it'll be the biggest spanking a presidential ticket has ever suffered on election day.

The church will stay home for the most part.

I'm not going to cave in on my views so that you can win.

You should've posted this paragraph first...
Then we wouldn't have wasted any time reading the rest of your bilge.

Like rice has repeated, are you comfortable accepting a liberal candidate because you would not vote for a RINO, based on one issue? Let's pretend that an otherwise perfect Conservative candidate is Pro-Choice. Would you not vote for this person based on one issue?
In a state like NY (God help us)if the only two VIABLE candidates are moderate rino Rudy(R) and spawn-of-satan lib Hill(D), a no vote by a conservative is essentially a vote FOR the dim.

How silly of me. Abortion is just murder.

And by the way, Hillary's just for universal health-care. That's just one issue, too.

Giving up on my view of abortion is what I am about. I am not obligated to give up on what is important to me in order to please you or anyone else.

You go and vote in the manner that works with your set of values, and I'll manage my own.
