Now add to that feeding 6 million people who have no way to earn money. 50% of the people are on the public payroll, the other 50% are unemployed.

Source please.

Ah, no wonder there is no face on the loser/winners. Thank you for the information.

So I guess we wait in anticipation the outing of living leadership. This does pose a problem in just WHO to send checks to.

Yes, but the Saudis and the other ME countries were providing the smallest portion of the money the Palestinians were getting. If they had been willing to give more, the Palestinians wouldn't have the lowest standard of living in the Arab world.

Dont' kid yourself, they might try for a month or two, but then the taps will be turned off. If the Palestinians think the Arab world is going to support them, they have a rather nasty wake up coming.

Between the G-8 pledges and Clinton fundraiser there is $9b for economic development waiting on order and domestioc tranquility.

Simple logic. Those who are employed now are either working for the Israelis or have businesses who sell to Palestinians. Those who work for the Israelis are going to be unemployed almost immediately. Those who are in business selling to Palestinians are not going to be able to remain in business when the public sector employees are not receiving their paychecks. Who do they sell to? I'm sure there must be a few businesses who sell to countries outside, but how long will they remain alive when their neighbors see they have money while their neighbors do not?

I have had a palestinian, who was living and working in this country, tell me straight out that they only care about "killing Jews", no matter where they are -

Here you see, is a perfect example of our disconnect from our "civilized" nature. I hate "political correctness" with a passion, since it is the only explanation as to why we just don't pick up that "palestinian", and every other one who abuses our hospitality by the scruff of the neck and dump him into the Pacific Ocean, or whichever other Ocean is closest.

And it should happen swiftly, certainly and as many times as necessary.

The can do their murder and mayhem thing, if they can, but not with the wealth and tools they obtain living in our free society!

Yes, but that was BEFORE Hamas was elected into power. Do you really think those funds will be made available to a known terrorist organization?

There is no Palestinian state yet, but they do sell to the outside. From the NYT article:

"Because Hamas has not yet formed a government, the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, has asked American help to persuade the Persian Gulf countries to provide more aid now, and to ensure that Israel delivers the $40 million to $50 million owed to the Palestinian Authority from tax and customs receipts, which Israel collects on behalf of the Palestinians."

"Israeli officials suggested that Ehud Olmert, Israel's acting prime minister, would agree to release this month's money anyway, since a Hamas government has not been formed, but questioned whether Israel would agree to give any money to Hamas in the future. "We don't want to punish the Palestinian people," an official said. "But we don't have any illusions about Hamas."

"The departing Palestinian economy minister, Mazen Sinokrot, said the 135,000 civil servants were the main breadwinners for 30 percent of Palestinian families. "If these salaries do not come in, this is a message for violence," he said."

The real question is whether Israel or the rest of the world will stand by and watch the Palestinians disintegrate. I doubt it.

And a good start would be going into these muslim-run "convenience stores" all over the country. Many are laundries for money going to finance jihad as well as outlets for stolen merchandise.

I'm not so sure either, but keeping them from disintegrating and providing mere sustinance are two different things. I'm not too sure that allowing them to disintigrate might not be the best thing for the Palestinian people. What was the final vote? At one point I heard it was almost 70% for Hamas. People need to understand that their votes have consequences. If that message does not get across, the entire ME democracy becomes worthless.

However, providing food and medicine is not the same as earning a paycheck.

If they have to grow their own food, they won't have time to dress up in ski masks, stage their RPG parades and plan homicide bombings. The threat of starvation is a great motivator.

You just hit a nerve with me...
I have images of a strutting imbecile with a "palestinian" flag being surrounded by a hundred moron photographers while the macho palestinian idiot's buddies blow up cafeterias, and also images of goosestepping thugs by the thousands with identical ski masks feeling "fierce"... parading around "palestinian" streets instead of doing something... anything... useful...

Excuse me. I just watched another documentary last night about Flight 93, and I am in no mood to cut those animals any slack whatsoever.

Starve? Sounds good to me!

is there a face

This is an interesting issue.

Hamas has led terrorist attacks against Israeli military and civilians for many years. They have hidden behind masks to hide their identity.

Israel has declared Hamas a criminal organization and has vowed to bring their leaders to justice.

So it seems like any Hamas "leader" who takes off their mask and appears in public creates an Israeli free fire zone in their immediate vicinity.

Thoughts, anyone?

Logic is not a substitute for facts. If Palestinian businesses are affected, then so will other businesses in the region, including those owned by Israelis, will also be affected. Where do you think the food, clothing, and other necessities of life come from to support the Psalestinians?

(...and the rage of defeated and armed Fatah militants.)

Except for the armed part, Fatah sounds like the Democrat party. They think that only they are born to rule.

Oh, I'm sure the Israelis will find adequate market for their goods.

The chaos that results couldn't be MUCH worse than the chaos that took place before the elections. Breaking down the wall into Egypt and killing 2 Egyptian soldiers is just one example. Do you really think Egypt and Jordan would just stand by and wring their hands? Do you think they would take from their own people to provide for them? Neither Egypt nor Jordan are rich countries, but they are militarily strong. I know that Egypt was highly offended at the antics that have taken place in the last few weeks and it won't be forgotten or forgiven. Both leaders have a very heavy hand when dealing with terrorists.

Nobody is saying that 6 million Palestinians need to be totally supported by outside funding. No one is doing that now.

Well, I'm saying it and common sense confirms it, unless you can tell us, if not outside funding, how do these 4 million useless POSs exist?

Please document your response with detailed references and sources.

Where are you getting the figure of 6 million Palestinians? Are you including those who live in Israel proper?

"The report then notes that the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip stands at approximately 1.4 million while in the West Bank it is approximately 2.4 million. There are 237,185 Palestinians in Occupied East Jerusalem."

The Palestinian population stands at over 5.3 million while the Jewish population stands at 5.2 million.

The figures come from the U.S. State Department's annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2004. The report provided population figures for each of these territorial units separately but failed to connect all the dots to arrive at the explosive new demographic reality that an Israeli Jewish minority now rules over a larger number of Palestinians living between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River.

The section on Israel and the Occupied Territories states that the population of Israel stands at 6.8 million, of whom 5.2 million are Jews, 1.3 million Arabs and another 290,000 are other minorities. The Arabs who are citizens of Israel are Palestinians who are survivors and descendants of those Palestinians who were not forced out of the country or fled when Israel was created.

Now that my memeory has been jogged, it was Rantisi, another hamas leader who was rocketed about a year ago, Yasin was a few months before that. Their current head man is hiding in Syria.
