Feinstein says job crackdowns 'don't work'
San Diego Union Tribune ^ | 03/31/06 | Jerry Kammer

Posted on 03/31/2006 7:53:24 AM PST by RS

"Sen. Dianne Feinstein said yesterday that it would be pointless to couple the legalization of immigrants with a crackdown on U.S. employers who hire unauthorized workers.

“I don't think it makes any sense,” Feinstein said. Federal immigration officials, she noted, have backed off in the past when faced with opposition in communities where work sites are disrupted. "

“What has been shown is that employer sanctions don't work,” Feinstein said.

“You go into a field and you cite an agricultural grower, and the whole community erupts because everybody knows that grower has to harvest his crop or the crops lie dead and dormant,” she said. “So the employer sanctions program has been basically unenforceable.”

My limited experience the Austin, Tx of the early 60s, taught me that every business man who would afford it hired a lobbyist or otherwise sought to gain some advantage. Small businessmen are just as fearful of competition as big business.

"I don't think it makes any sense," Feinstein said.

"Thinks????" The stupid bwitch "thinks" it doesn't make any sense? The reason she has to "think" about it is because it's NEVER been tried, so there is NO WAY she or any other congress critter could possibly have any REAL evidence to substantiate her ridiculous statement. I loathe career politicians. The longer they've been in office, the more more worthless they are.

McCain and Kennedy are the principal sponsors of the controversial legislation, which is expected to come up for a Senate vote late next week.

The bill would provide a path to citizenship for nearly all the illegal immigrants in the country if they pay a fine and back taxes, take English classes and pass a criminal background check.

Once those 11(?) million illegals obtain citizenship, their families can instantly travel to the United States and obtain legal citizenship also. You do the numbers---we will DROWN in taxation.

McCain is a traitor. Down with the Senate proposals!! Until a better one can be written, go with the only viable bill, the one already passed with bipartisan support in the House: HR 4437.

Of course they don't work if you don't enforce them. When have these laws ever been enforced? Not since RR signed that stupid amnesty bill in 1986 has the employer part of the bill been enforced. DiFi is just another idiot and I am sorry to day she is my Senator, her and Barbara Boxer, what a pair of moon bats to have representing a person!

Ignorance is no excuse. Besides, we have computers today that can put the lie to these documents in about 10 mins or less. It is done with background checks for firearms and can be done with SS numbers and green card numbers and drivers licenses are alread checkable through any state Motor Vehicles dept. There is no excuse for employers hiring ILLEGAL aliens. This is just another excuse that goes along with the "jobs americans won't do", "can't deport the ILLEGALS", and other talking points of globalist.

Do you really want all citizens to have to be given a Federal ID card?

Because that is what it will come to.

And ALL citizens will have to be vetted to be sure they are citizens--to check only hispanics will be regarded as
"profiling".

So we will all have to have some kind of non-counterfietable ID. Welcome to the world of Orwell. . .

Bumping Feinstein's phone number:

(202) 224-3841

Feinstein's deputy for immigration issues is Brian Hughes.

Horse shit. This is another talking point for people who say we simply "can't" do anything but let these poor misguided ILLEGAL immigrants stay here. Once we start enforcing the law against employers see how fast they figure out how to vet a worker. A birth certificate would be nice and these are easily checked. Drivers license, as I've pointed out, are easily checke also. There is NO excuse for allowing this many ILLEGALs into the country. Mexico needs to fix their own problems, we are not their welfare dept.

Wife filed income tax last year and was told someone other than her had been working in San Antonio using her ssn. What a hassle she had from the IRS.She had to prove it wasnt her.Im sure she probably has been 'tagged' by the IRS.Ill bet nothing was done to the perp.

My daughter had to go through the same thing a few years ago. The only thing that saved her was pointing out the fact that she was working full time here and would have had a hell of a time driving back and forth between CA and Utah to work two jobs that covered the same hours, or even different hours!

I don't know if they caught the perp or not but no more trouble since then and that was about 2 years ago.

Well a great gerrymandered majority is; some of us resent being painted with that brush.

"I'm sure that like in 1986, some ineffectual, feel-good immigration bill will be passed that will not even be enforced."

Your sadly correct, reason being is that the elites (on both sides of the political fence) don't care what the masses think. There are two kinds of governments in the world: The first kind, fortunately there aren't as many as there used to be, oppress their people. This is a fool's errand, and such governments fail sooner or later. The SECOND kind is smarter; this kind of government does not oppress its people, it merely IGNORES them, and largely does the bidding of elites and certain interest groups. This is what we have in the USA today--a representative republic that doesn't represent. You see it in illegal immigration policy, outsourcing, health insurance, even the war in Iraq. There is a cartoon "happy bunny" popular with young people who says insensitive things for a laugh. One of his catchphrases is "I know how you feel, I just don't care." This is the attitude of the US government (all 3 branches) and the American elite toward the population at large.

Fining employers thousands of dollars per worker per offense doesn't sound like it would do anything to me. Heck, just add the fines to your product costs.

That works until the fine plus wages paid to your employees drives your costs higher than your competitor who employs only legal labor. Make the fines high enough to force that condition. The legal only employer will be able to offer product at a final cost less than the employer of illegals.

Gerrymandering doesn't affect a Senate race.

I hope it is a good database. I'm happy knowing that a given name matches a given social security number...but I sometimes wonder if there are forty people with that name and number combination.

My local gun shop owner gave up farming. He would see the same people showing up to work on his farm with different social security numbers each time. He couldn't do squat about it because the law forbids him from challenging the legitimacy of the documents presented. His profit margin was too slim to tolerate facing a civil rights lawsuit from an illegal represented by the ACLU.

Communist Democrats better be careful about this two. Lots of Democrats might jump to a 3rd Party that's serious about domestic security, especially the security of their homes, families and jobs.
